Our Origin Stars: Uate and Boyd

Whats Doing

Meh, he had one fk up and unfortunately those are the ones everyone remembers because it resulted in a try.

Stewart and Hayne had major fk-ups that very nearly resulted in tries. Billy Slater was worse than Uate tonight.

And the lack of determination and positioning which led to the Inglis try. That was also unforgivable.

Right now he is a Maserati in attack and a Mini in defence. Sticky won't drop him but there are wingers in much better form than Uate.

I wouldn't call him a Maserati in attack at the moment. He will always be strong, but I don't think he is busting or evading tackles as much as he does when he's in form.

Unfortunately it seems as if our terrible club form has also shot his confidence at origin level. Not contesting that bomb was obviously a confidence thing and it's inexcusable at that level.

And as much as I'd love to get Mitchell Pearce here because I think he's what we need at club level, he just isn't up to Origin. Sadly though we have no other options.

Still happy NSW got the win though. Farrah and Bird were sensational I thought.

This just makes me loathe Naqaima and Sau even more. Uate wouldn't have a confidence problem if he was running off Mad Dog. The fact of the matter is he has been forced to run off two nuffy centres who don't get the ball to him in space and are themselves suspect in defence. He's got a coach who tells him to stay on his wing in attack and the most action he's seen this year is running from dummy half and kick returns. Hopefully Gagai can help him because no one else at our club is atm.

Of course his confidence is shot. His failure at Origin level is merely a by-product of our own team's dismal performances.

Not a knights fan but I am an uate fan. But have to admit he's been terrible this years. One thing I noticed is he doesn't possess a sidestep. He has speed and strength but that's it. I have him for 1st try most weeks and there has been quite a few occasions where he has been one on one with a fullback and been cut down . Bowen cut him down a few weeks ago and the following week Dave Taylor beat Bowen one on one. Still alot of worse wingers in the game but he's definately struggling compared to last year.

It wasnt the bugger up as such mate, but more the non effort involved. He was the player traveling forward and he had to absolutely attack that high ball. Instead he meandered over to where it might land and let someone else do the work.

Same with the Inglis try. He sat and waited for Boyd to catch it instead of contesting the ball.

He just doesnt seem to back himself and that is not a good sign for a player of his ability in his position. I used to scream at him for taking high balls with his hands above his head but he isnt even doing that any more.

Uate has one of the best side steps in the game. I don't know if he is playing injured or not, but his mobility has definitely gone out the window.

Thread title needs to be changed to Origin Tards.
Uate has been unusually flat and lacking confidence. And Boyd, not that NSWelshman care, has been the same.

Aku used to have a massive left foot step when he played out on the left...

Meh still love you aku. I'm sure you'll score 20 plus tries by the end of the season. I love you mate!

Poor Aku,
The only time he can get his hands on the ball for his club or state is inside his own 20 running at a set defence. The men inside him at both levels can't get the ball to him on the wing, and opposing kickers only kick to him with attacking bombs, the rest go to the fullback or oppoosing winger (even at origin). As a result he never sees broken play or space.

He still has his sidestep, but it is hard to use it against a set line (he still does right before the line).

He is down on confidence, but not as bad as most make out. His side has leaked less tries for us than the left this year. Only the last couple of games has he defended poorly.

i thought boyd played really well
he was the catalyst for both their tries
he didnt let uate catch the massive bounce, and pushed it back

and the second one, he passed while still in the air straight to inglis

uate should not have let that bounce, but i think everyone agrees with that
the second try, well he wasnt in the right position, so what else can you do.
i think uate gets another origin, but who knows

Uate is 1 good game and a couple of tries away from being back to his best. Just when that 1 good game comes along is up to the guys inside him.

I agree with this. Think it is more confidence than lack of interest. On watching the replay he seemed to be trying hard to get back and hit up but no opportunities came his way in attack. Did not have a happy night, but he will bounce back. Mad if they drop him.

They will not drop Aku. If they do then is tells me Stuart is full of s### about' his stick with them ' mantra and emulating Qld player loyalty regardless of result.

That's already been done. And thank Christ because he and his selectors have finally (almost) got it right.
