Did anyone catch the prelim game to City v Country? The Qld Outback team played a Mixwell Cup rep team. Despite being undermanned and overpowered - the boys from the bush never gave in. They were thumped on the scoreboard - but kept driving on. It is performances like theirs that make our game great - and will see it continue to grow!!!! Well done boys

The game should not have been played. It was always going to be a mismatch and the scoreline showed it. I was impressed by the Outback fullback Luke Murr, who was pretty quick and also their centre Craig Cook, who played fullback in the second half, due to the inury to Murr.

Agreed.

Great for the Outback to have a rep match and a trip to Brisbane but I think a team selected from Second Division or another regional team would have been a better match-up.

How about putting together a match between the Mixwell Cup guys from the City and the Country. If the Country team was not high enough quality, then perhaps add a few Foley Shield guys to promote the comp up north.

Interesting that no one has complained about the very lob sided City v Country game, for at least the 2nd year in a row. The benfit ofthis game will be felt wen these guys go back to their clubs and towns and lift the home standards

The City v Country result was a big upset based on the team make-ups.

The Outback match was always going to be a mismatch.

Always going to be a mismatch????? Based on your in depth experience of outback football? Based on the Urbancentric view of the Rugby League world? Perhaps your right. Lets rid ourselves of any team that on paper is not going to compete... would save heaps of time. Of course Australian RL would have been killed off in the 50s given the beatings the Poms managed to give us.

Smokin Joe, there five-eighth would have been about 110kg. This is just one example of how they were always going to be smashed. Only three would have been fit enough to play Mixwell Cup footy.

In no way was I bagging outback or any other football. The Mixwell Cup blokes largely come from clubs with Queensland Cup teams and their level of fitness is getting towards Cup level, which is the step below NRL.

The Outback players were all talented footballers but simply got done for speed and fitness.

I would like to see the Outback concept kept, however have them play either a champion regional team (possibly on the same weekend as a major event for the area) or the Brisbane Sub-districts team ( as in the one that is playing the Ipswich Diggers today). A challenge against NT is also a possibility.

Out of curiosity what jersey design did the Outback guys have ?

Predominently an ochre colour - bit like the colours used in Northern Territory promotions and jerseys.
