Over rated artists

I think when discussing overrated artists one should separate a few things:

Artists who were one hit wonders or have declined in quality eg RHCP

Artists who were never any good eg Linkin Park

Artists who annoy you personally

One group who all my metal friends love and only ever seems to have critical acclaim is Tool. Now these guys are very good and I like them but I don’t get why so many consider them to be some amazing creative force. They are a good art rock band sure but I never understood why they’re proclaimed like leading prog rock pioneers

Dude. Really? Rancid V was awesome.

The thing about Rancid for me is that it is a one way love affair because Tim doesn't wanna come back here cos of Brodie.

The most talented musicians to die in 2016 were Merle Haggard, Ralph Stanley and Prince. I'll never forget waking up and seeing Facebook blowing up over Prince and I thought it was bullshit. Now there was a talented man.

All their albums are listenable, and they are obviously talented. But f**k me if you were to listen to their fans you'd think they created not only music, but the universe itself.

Maynard could take a shit into a ceiling fan and Tool's fans would happily stand under it with mouths wide open.

I just don't get the Tool worship. Mates insist that I listen to it, saying that "You'll love it!"

I was living in the UK when the Monkeys hit big, so I'm probably biased.

Love there first two albums and there last one (AM), they disappeared up there own arse there in between. They got obsessed with being US alternative rock and lost there northern indie rock roots.

Prince is one of my all-time favourite performers.

Leonard Cohen

I have been kicked off Facebook forums for calling Dylan as boring as a dog's ass. I'm currently being subjected to Nick Cave at work right now and Halleluah is the most unnecessary song ever written and was made even worse by k.d. Lang's cover.

I do agree that Bob Dylan is boring as a solo artist but as a song writer I love what other artists have done with his songs and also he was part of The Travelling Wilburys so wont dis him in that aspect but as a solo artist I totally agree he is boring as bat sh*t.

Nah I loved their first 4 albums (One Hot Minute is vastly underrated imo). As good as Californication is, you could hear the end coming. Anything after this is just shit.

Air Supply? That's an oldie I'm guessing your going to struggle to find too many fans to argue with on this forum.

I'll put my hand up, I like Air Supply, wrote some excellent love songs, funny how they seemed to find more success in the USA than they did back home.

Yep they still are, I liked them between 1976-1983 and have a few of their songs on my ipod but do admit I don't really keep up to date with them these days.
