Im just listening to Heaven & Hell by Black Sabbath with Ronnie is fine form and i was thinking with all the publicity Ozzy get's not only for his reality show but his singing credentials how come Ronnie Didn't get the same accolades??.

In my opinion Ronnie James Dio shit's all over Ozzy in his time with Sabbath, as a singer & songwriter!!.

Who else reckons that Sabbath got better when Ronnie joined??....don't get me wrong i think Ozzy is a great singer however Ronnie's voice you must admit leaves Ozzy with nothing!!.

For people who haven't heard Ronnie in Sabbath i recommend you download these songs and tell me what you think.....

- Heaven & Hell
- Voodoo
- Neon Night's
- Sign of the Southern Cross

f**k he has a great voice!!!

The song writing changed when RJD joined the group. Music became more mature. More body with RJD's writing. It's a totally different Black Sabbath. In saying that, I felt they tried to go back to that with Dehumaniser and didn't do to bad either.

Ian Gillan also had an impact on the band with one and only album he did with them. Born Again. Great stuff if you haven't heard it, but I'm with you RJ and TV, Ronnie is awesome and in my books the best voice in rock. Followed by Bruce Dickenson, Rob Halford and Geoff Tate the original vocalist from Queensryche.

Holy Diver is the chronic dude ;-) ....his best song IMO just ahead of Stargazer when he was in Rainbow.

That's exactley what i reckon with Ozzy!!...he's a hack who is getting all this attention for basically being a average musician!!.

Ronnie has it all!...voice, song writing talents, presence where as Ozzy can hardly even stand up & piss straight in a urinal!!

Love is All - RJD sang that. Remember that one?

I've never been a Sabbath fan. Unfortunately they just never grabbed me when I was heavily into music in my teens.

I can't offer an opinion here......but i must agree that Dio's lyrics are awesome from what i've seen - and you can't have a good band without quality lyrics

The Grashoppers Ball and The Butterflies Feast. Remember it well. It had an animated film clip with a frog carrying RJD's voice while playing a lute walking through the forest.

Stargazer is another awesome song RJ.

Agree EG, Ronnie was brillant at incorperating Dungeon's, dragons, Castle's into the songs!!...i mean f**k how many band scould write that shit and still sell albums and inspire people.

Im a massive Ratt fan but i must admit Black sabbath has been played alot of late....just ahead of Kiss.

EG do honestly reckon that Bruce Dickenson had ronnny as an influence ??...just listening to both singers they sound alot a like.

Funny you should say that RJ. I do believe so. Bruce was a fan of Elf so it stands to reason he used RJD as a bench mark. f**k..........who wouldn't?

This will make you jealous. I saw Rainbow in 1976 at the Adelaide Festival Theatre. The original line up. Soon after Rainbow On Stage came out and I didn't hesitate buying it. Geez I gave that double live album a flogging.

I was that big a fan, a few years later I had the album cover of Rainbow Rising muralled to the bonnet of my car.

OMG that brings back fond memories, I would ne
ver have known that was Dio singing Butterfly ball.

TV, I think you mean Samson not Saxon. Saxon has always had Peter "Biff" Byford as their front man.
yeah i do,i get em mixed up
Saxon are the dudes who released Denim and leather and the excellent Crusader albulm and had Pete Gill from Motorhead as their drummer #-o

I thought so!....i was talking to my big sis the other day who is the person who got me into Ronnie James Dio and we both thought there voices where alot a like....espically when Bruce is singing "Run to the Hills"...and when he sings that line "Run....for...your life...." and hold's it....that has Ronnnie's influence stamped all over it!.

I have heard some Elf but i will be doing some more searching in the next couple of day's....a few of my mates reckon it's great stuff & if it's anything like Rainbow or Sabbath i can't wait.

f**k that would have been awesome to se them in concert....apparently Ronnie is only 5'6??....and apparently the reason why his previous band was named Elf was because everyone was so small....the biggest person was 5'7??.

That's them, but their best number was Dallas 1pm. Their live album, The Eagle Has Landed was brilliant to.

I don't know why they named the band ELF, but you're right about Ronnie. He wasn't very tall at all, but he is a giant among men in the vocal department.
