At the moment it is looking like it won't sell out, there are still entire bays which haven't been released. Sitting around 18K sold at the moment.

Are the ticket prices the same as a warriors game ?
seems strange the warriors can sell out 12 games but the national team can’t sell out 1

Can't find the Warriors ticket prices for this year (although I know they didn't have same pricing for every game), but relative to membership pricing, the Pacific Championship is a lot more expensive.

So the player payment bill for the whole tournament is about $650 000, or if you extrapolate that figure per player over a 25-round season about $75 000 per player per annum. Is that what a representative player is worth, obviously Origin rep players are worth a lot more.
I know the NRL has to be fiscally responsible, and you want players playing for the love of their country, but you`d hardly figure that that number is going to inspire players to declare themselves available if they have a niggle.

No, that`d be per player per game and I`d guess just for the match day 18, but no sure about that.
Either way, as I said that values them at about $75 000 per season, an Origin player is valued at $750 000.
It does, once again, leave the NRL open for criticism about their attitude to international Rugby League.

The payments are low because that’s what the international game can pay, this tournament is an added bonus for fox and 9, they haven’t paid anything for it. If this tournament can get some momentum it could generate some extra $$ to the tv deal and payments could go up. But as this stage players are basically playing for free.

overall it’s a great thing that payments are even across all countries, for too long players have been choosing Australia based on match payments instead of the country they’d prefer play for. It’s no coincidence that when match payments became equal there has been a big shift in players choosing to play for the islands.

Any updates on NZ v Tonga ticket sales?

IF it sells out it will mean all 16 games of professional Rugby League in NZ in 2024 will have sold out:

Two trials in Feb in Christchurch and Auckland
12 NRL club games, 11 in Auckland and 1 in Christchurch

Two internationals: 1 in Christchurch and 1 in Auckland (presuming NZ v Tonga sells out)

Quite an achievement in a country where yawnion is a religion !

Ironically, if you go back a few years. This Tonga v Kiwis game would have been the only one of the 16 you would think would be a certain sell-out.

Then there’s Kai Pearce Paul, Morgan Smithies who are all coming through nicely

Origin has earnt the money to pay. This concept will grow too and when it does start making serious money, so the pay can go up

Pvl now has proof of concept the current format is way too short

Somehow Tonga v Samoa and aus v nz need to happen twice in the pool stages

England may need to be involved too so the Pac cup isn’t diminished as it is now

Quad nations is ideal at the minimum

In decent time slots these games can get 500k to 1.3 million viewers in Australia plus whatever nz and png gets

No question, that is essential, no second-class citizens.

I just don`t know if the players should have to wait. This series will average 20k+, that`s more than the NRL, surely they deserved to be paid at least the same as an average NRL player, and let`s face it they aren`t average, their representative.
Tricky one, do we have to have a separate Tv deal for internationals before we truly know their worth, or are the crowd and tv ratings figures telling us that already.

One off tests against each other favour Australia

Each nation should get two tests against the opponent

England is the issue I guess the current system where one country from here goes there

But it’s devaluing the pacific cup

We’ve yet to see Samoa v Tonga which is literally the definition of what pacific cup should be

A great sign of the growth in international footy is that Commbank might be too small for an Aus v Tonga test next week. Shame a last minute switch to Allianz won't happen

Yeah I heard that and thought christ get it right. Truth is though, the couple of times my Kayo stream was interrupted and I flicked over to nine, it took about 10 seconds of listening to Johns` droning on and on with his usual irrelevancies and tired old observations that had me scurrying back to Kayo. The difference in the quality of the coverage is night and day.
