Tonga has upset Fiji 16-14 to win the Bronse.

Fiji led 14- 4 at halftime but the Togans fought back well to win the game.

Papua New Guinea won gold at the Port Moresby 2015 Rugby League 9s, defeating Samoa 38-10 in a gold medal match performance that underlined the hosts' superiority throughout the two-day event.
PNG hooker and player of the tournament Wartovo Puara Junior scored two tries in the final, as did centre Oti Bland Tony, as the rapturous sell-out crowd lapped up the home side's success.
After six dominant performances leading up to the gold medal match it was little surprise that PNG took the honours in their final outing of the tournament.
PNG coach Michael Marum said the result was a huge boost for his players, few of whom have tasted success on the international stage.
"It was a big performance by all the team, and with one of our players ending up winning player of the tournament, it's really good for the code and for all of Papua New Guinea," Marum said.
"I think it's going to be a positive thing for the players, and it's good experience for them. We've got seven games before PNG Hunters' season finals too, and I hope we go back and keep working hard and that success will come."
Samoa coach Mike Felise believed his side was "lucky" to come away with a medal after a shaky start to the tournament, but said they regrouped at the end of day one.
"Our motivation really, really picked up after our last game (on day one) against Solomon Islands (Samoa won 50-0), it showed us how we could really play.
"We're lucky we got a medal and we're happy we got silver. It was hard work and we're over the moon."
Surprisingly Fiji, the second best team behind PNG on day one, went home empty-handed. After losing to Samoa in the semifinal they were beaten 16-14 by Tonga in the bronze medal match.
"The boys are feeling disappointed because they didn't expect to lose, but we accept it," said Fiji coach Maika Vuivere. "Some you win and some you lose, and we'll go back and learn from our mistakes."
Tonga quickly became crowd favourites on day two and thrilled supporters with a series of celebratory performances of the sipi tau (Tongan haka) after claiming the bronze medal.
Coach Taufa f**kof**ka (TON) was delighted with his side's turnaround after winning just a single match on day one.
"We're really happy with the boys winning a medal. I told the boys last night that if we beat Solomon Islands by more than four tries (in the final round-robin match on Sunday) then maybe we would make the semi-final, and the boys worked hard for it.
"For most of them it's the first time they've ever competed in a tournament like this, and they've won a medal. They can't wait to go back home and celebrate."

Mikail Eagle, just flicked on NITV and PNG v Fiji in soccer are playing in a rectangular stadium of some size with large open grandstands. Looks basic but good. Is this the new redeveloped Lloyd Robson stadium? Seems perfect for league.

No. That would be soccer at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium.

It is not fully completed yet because what will be the main Grandstand is yet to be built. (You will have noticed only 3 stands ).

You maybe also have noticed that there are no actual seats installed in the stands as yet.
I think once finished it will have capacity for 20,000-25000

I hear Hubert Murray is better located. Surely they could have just consolidated and made one good rectangular stadium with a bigger capacity?

I think the reason all 3 Stadiums are going up at the same time is because PNG will also be hosting the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup in November next year 2016.

Papua New Guinea to Host FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in 2016
on 22 March 2015. Posted in Media Releases

The eyes of the soccer world will be on Papua New Guinea after it was announced overnight that the nation will host the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in 2016.

The Prime Minister, Hon. Peter O'Neill CMG MP, has welcomed the announcement as another example of Papua New Guinea coming of age in many forums.

"Papua New Guinea will proudly host the rising stars of global soccer at our world-class football facilities," the Prime Minister said following the FIFA announcement.

"Being awarded the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in 2016 is a major victory for Papua New Guinea as a country that can host world events.

"This is the first time in our history for a major world tournament to be held in Papua New Guinea and it will attract a lot of interest from around the world.

"We have the sporting facilities that are being built for the Pacific Games, as well as other infrastructure. This includes Sir John Guise Stadium and Sir Hubert Murray Stadium, and our stadiums in Lae and Kokopo.

"Papua New Guinea is a country where our people can now aim high to bring events such as this FIFA tournament and the APEC summit in 2018."

The tournament will run over twenty days in November 2016 and will bring around 1,000 players and officials to Papua New Guinea as well as spectators. The Prime Minister said the tournament will also be broadcast around the world to millions of fans.

"The FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in 2016 will be delivered according to the highest technical standards, alongside a display of Papua New Guinea's hospitality, culture and other tourist attractions."
