Yes but the problem is a second NZ side adds absolutely nothing for Australian advertisers. Would an Australian advertiser want to have access to the Perth or Adelaide market and vice versa or to NZ; particularly if they have no customers in NZ. The advertiser traffic also remember goes both ways, it offers a company based in WA or SA penetration into NSW and QLD that they don’t get with fumbleball most particularly.

This is why people asking for more sides where we currently are makes absolute no business sense.

You have to think what do advertisers want?
Lmao

yes an Australian advertiser and network will pay for the game because …. Guess what ?

the game is shown in Australia too

But why would anybody new get on board? You are not giving them a new market. Also, which would you prefer: a product that has a presence nationwide or one with a presence only on the east coast?

Sky nz will pay

and foxtel will pay for the extra game

it’s not rocket science

a Perth team will only generate money based on the extra game rather than the tiny numbers who would watch it on pay tv

How many sponsors does NRL have that sell things in NZ? Aside from betting and fast food cant think of others?
WA and SA have a population reach combined of nearly 4.5million people. Crazy that the NRL is just ignoring that! The rooster has finally come home to roost though in this latest round of tv and sponsorship deals. But will it be enough to shake them out of their myopic slumber?

The gap is $200mill, Wb thinks getting another $10mill tops out of Sky is going to make a dent in that gap lol.

Foxtel will pay very very little for a NZ side. There’s nothing in it for them and Australian advertisers won’t want another Kiwi side.

It’s pretty simple

Foxtel/Nine will just pay another $100m for an extra NZ side even though none of their advertisers would want a side there.

I would love another NZ side but it should only be for side 20. The goalposts have moved.

Extra game
Any team gives an extra game lol. There wont be a Bris3 in the next 10 years at least. If you want to sell an extra game it needs a new club. No brainer to put that club in a major Australian metro city that opens up a brand new market.

Again why would an existing advertiser pay more for a market they already have a large penetration in?
Why would TV? They didnt pay anything extra for Bris2, why would they for Bris3 beyond the ninth game but any new club brings that.

A US consortium backed by some NFL players were making big noises about setting up a Pacific Super Rugby team. But, most of the people involved were just B/S artists.

So, can't see this coming to fruition.

Exactly. But if TV are selling advertising spots for companies are they going to attract many new sponsors if you are selling a market that already exists

The unknown here is NZ TV, FTA coverage now. Hopefully they go well in the world cup and can build from there
