We shouldn't judge the players opting for the big three nations.

As an Aussie-Fijian or Fijian-Aussie, It would be a dream to play for Fiji where I was born and raised but it would also be an honour to respresent Australia.

Anyway, back on topic....Good one Kane and others "bucking the trend"

What if you were prevented playing for Fiji because you had to declare yourself eligible for State of Orgin? Even if you might never be good enough for Australia.

It is great news and hope they pump the fixture up and get a great crowd.

The tide I think is turning.. slowly.. It could be sped up immensely if the Pacific Islands teams had more matches.. The pacific tests this year have had a bigger profile then the City Country games and... sadly enough but at least part of the reason people will pick the Pacific Tests is because for some it's a now a legitimate pathway into Origin...

We have to support the Pacific Islands playing 4-5 tests a year outside of a world cup year.. and also getting at least 1 of those games each year against a top 3 nation... Then the tide will turn.. It's not just financially that the playing field isn't even.. to commit to a Pacific nation means a test career of 12-15 games instead of 30-40.. But yes.. the tide is turning I think

Exactly. These nations should be playing in meaningful tests and tournaments every single year. This is the only way players will commit to them.

Last year, it was announced that the two winners of them is year pacific tests would play each at the end of the year for the pacific championship, this never happened and was never mentioned of again. It is not enough to have one mid year test and not play again for 12 months.

Following on from Joey Leilua last year, we have Kane Evans and David Mead telling City-Country to get stuffed so they can play for Fiji and PNG. It also mentions Waqa Blake and Reagan-Gillard possibly snubbing it too.

Is the tide turning slowly? We need to roll on with the World Cup fixtures and Confed Cup asap. These guys just want the big stage!

Great to see them travel all that way for the match but think in the clubs position they should be helping them out first.

City and Country was always a way for NSW/Australia to vacuum up a few more players from the Islands.

Glad to see people making a stand. Respect.

"Queensland Rugby League (QRL) Chairman Peter Betros has today announced the XXXX Queensland Residents team to play NSW in Brisbane next Sunday.

XXXX Queensland Residents:

1. Jahrome Hughes

Townsville Blackhawks

2. Sami Sauiluma

Burleigh Bears

3. Nemani Valekapa

Ipswich Jets
"

Valekapa is known to all up here as the Fijian Ferrari and with outside backs dropping for the Batis .....it would be interesting to see if he was courted by them. Has repped for them before pre RLWC2013 from memory.

(On a side note, CANADA rep Riley JACKS is also in the QLD Residents squad six months after playing for the Canucks v the Yanks in the RLWC2017 qualifiers.)

Isn't the Residents squad just a Barbarians type team of players playing in the QLD cup?

The Residents team is ,yes, the representative team of the clubs playing in the QLD Intrust Super Cup ( except for the PNG Hunters who not eligible).

I believe the rules are that to be a Residents player (for either QLD or NSW) you must also be eligible for that same state's Origin team.

My point was that players eligible for the Pacific Nations ...that are also eligible for the Residents game can also cause a headache for PI selectors and supporters.

Personally I wouldn't declare for Origin but it's easy to say when I'm not in that position.

No not at all.

JT played residents for NSW, so did SBW.

Hodkinson played for QLD.

Residents games are just that, rep teams of current players in each states comp. Nothing to do with SOO and International eligibility.
