Im honestly surprised that state cup clubs will be able to afford regular flights out of Australia to Fiji, PNG and Noumea on a weekly basis - whats the arrangement for away teams for these club going to be (or already in place for the hunters), do the home team pay or is the qrl/nswrl paying?

Also just realised, if this Pacifique XIII team gets up and running will it be the first time in an Australian RL competition that we will have a team flying from outside of Australia to another country outside of Australia to play (Port Moresby - Noumea), trivial and mostly meaningless but still interesting!

I accept your point about the 3 North American teams getting more exposure to higher ranked opposition. But seriously, please do some research before you write.

Jamaica did not "go" to Wales. They played them in Wakefield, with 100% UK heritage-based players. Jamaica could not afford a trip across the atlantic for a friendly match. Also, people here seem to be underestimating just how remote some of these pacific islands are! Sure, Brisbane-Noumea may have a direct flight, but anything outside of that and it starts to get messy. Let alone flying teams from USA and Jamaica to some of these pacific islands and vice versa. A logistical nightmare and last but not least, EXPENSIVE!

Let's say on a good day, to get one player from Kingston to Noumea, it's going to cost 3 grand. Multiplied by a (skeleton) squad of 20, $60,000 not even factoring in accommodation and any of the other costs.

Now, ask yourself, would you rather that enormous amount be spent on this one-off match? Or invested into the grassroots of Jamaica? I know what I would prefer.

Many fans are quick to flip their lids saying: "What a disgrace! Not enough international matches!" and quite often the very same fans are sayingQ "What a disgrace! Not enough investment in the grassroots!" It is not a perfect world, the money not unlimited, so we need to prioritise.

So for the meantime, yes, keep Canada-USA-Jamaica playing each other regularly. There are other ways go strengthen your national team and having Wolfpack and the Aces' pathways there could be the best formula.

Are these comps even proposed to be played home and away? More than likely they would all be held somewhere like campbelltown or Auckland, which realistically is where the majority of players will be drawn from which would eliminate some of the travel costs you mentioned.

Just to clarify, currently both the Silktails and Hunters pay for the respective teams from Australia to come across.

It's accepted in order for Pacifique Treize to be added to the Intrust Super Cup, they'll need to be able to afford the airfares for each of their opponents as well accommodation, etc.

Montpellier, in the French National Division (3rd Division), has just signed a player from New Caledonia. Whilst not as a result of Pacifique 13, it is still a vote of confidence that New Caledonia can produce RL players.

FIRST TESTING DAY FOR PACIFIQUE TREIZE FUTURE STARS

At the Stade Nouma Daly in Noumea, the first athletes joined in for the first ‘testing day’ to see if they had what it takes to become a part of the Pacifique Treize journey to the Intrust Super Cup in 2023.

The Pacifique Treize Intrust Super Cup expansion bid held their first of what will be many testing days as they seek to find the players that will enter the development system that the team will be establishing. With 20 players taking part in athletic tests of speed, agility, and strength they got their first taste of what it will take to be a part of elite competition in Australia.

Manuel Jalabert, the Pacifique Treize New Caledonia Director ran the testing day and said “The participants all showed an excellent willingness to give it their all and to push themselves all through the session. We look forward to seeing more of this standard as we run sessions all over New Caledonia over the coming weeks and months.”

“This is a historic day for our bid; however, it will definitely not be the last time we run these days across Noumea and beyond as we seek to find the best to go into our Centre de Formation network”

“We look forward to running bigger and better days with these athletes and many more as COVID-19 restrictions ease and we can have more people in a public gathering in New Caledonia” Mr Jalabert said.”

Mr Jalabert said that “As COVID-19 restrictions end across our catchments and in Australia, the numbers in the testing days will increase and the standard will increase as we bring over our team’s top coaches to push potential players even further.”​

As you can see from my previous comments, I am massively skeptical of this project. But I have to say, I am very encouraged by the fact that they have gotten straight to work since making the announcement and seem to be making genuine efforts to put some solid foundations in place between now and 2023. SECOND NOUMÉA ATHLETICS TEST TO TAKE PLACE IN JULY

Pacifique Trieze will host it’s second Nouméa athletic tests for its Development team this on Wednesday, July 1st at Stade Numa-Daly Magenta in Nouméa.

Kicking off at 1:30pm, the athletic test will be open to all team sports players however all interested participants must register before the event.

VANUATU CLUBS TO RESUME TRAINING FROM TODAY

The Vanuatu Rugby League (VRL) clubs across the Pacific nation are set return to training for the 2020 VRL domestic competitions from today.

The resumption of training, which will adhere to the policies put in place by the Vanuatu Government to combat COVID-19, will allow all players to prepare for a planned competition in July.

Acting VRL President Antonio Korikalo commented “We’ve certainly taken a cautious approach to our return to training, which was important to us being the fast, entertaining and high impact contact sport that we are. We see ourselves as a socially responsible organisation that positively contributes to Ni-Vanuatu society and working within the Vanuatu Government guidelines and being responsible citizens was essential in this time to protect our island nation. We’re very fortunate to remain COVID free and we’ll now work with the relevant stakeholders in Vanuatu to firstly return to training next week and then to start our 2020 competitions for women, men and juniors when it is safe to do so.”

VRL Secretary-General So’o Motuliki added “We’ve called a meeting with our one of our most important stakeholders, the clubs, for this week. The purpose will be two-fold, firstly to inform them of our return to training plans and the guidelines we have put in place but also to consult with them on our return to play plans. We need to ensure they are part of the process and we take on their advice to ensure they can safely return to training under the new guidelines but also have enough preparation time to safely resume playing where we are not putting any of our athletes at increased risk.”

Vanuatu is one of five Pacific territories the Pacifique Treize Intrust Super Cup bid will represent, with the club aiming to play two games per year out of Port Vila and draw players from the domestic competitions.

Rugby League was established in Vanuatu in 2011 with the nation currently an Observer member of the Asia Pacific Rugby League.

The Pacifique Treize team is bidding to join the QCup / Intrust Super Cup in 2023. There will be no new teams for the QCup in 2021, however unlike the NSWRL, the QRL has been quite keen to implement the Platinum League recommendation and have a 16-team competition before 2025.

The other team likely to join in the short term is the Western Mustangs (Toowoomba), although there has been talk around maybe a Darwin team joining.

Seems like there is a real opportunity for the QCup to create a great self sustaining regional comp.

As a current resident of Darwin this interests me greatly. There is a large appetite for league here... Not sure if Darwin could sustain Qld Cup initially but the team would get good support from both locals and government. Do you have any more info as I haven't heard this before and would love the idea.
