Pack of whining no-fans

My Hindmarsh,

Half of you people are the biggest bunch of whining, egomaniac, disloyal fans I've ever seen.

Every time I visit this board, I think I've been watching the wrong competition and that Parramatta is on the bottom of the table and favourites for the wooden spoon. I would have sworn we've been losing games by 20 to 30 points week in, week out.

Then I check the table and I see we're on the same amount of points as the seventh placed team and only two points off the third placed team. And I check our last few matches and note that we lost in overtime and then just went down by four points.

I come on here and I tend to forget that we lost our best backline player in week one, the same player that every single expert said we had to keep on the park to have any chance of making the eight. And that we've had a half dozen first grade standard players on the injured bench since the start of the comp.

Its hard to remember the club spirit that was displayed when after the biggest serve any club (outside of the Bulldogs) has been dished up for a very long tome, we came back and beat Brisbane at Brisbane. Because apparently, there is no spirit or heart at the club.

I love coming here and seeing a smart arse supporter of a club who picked up a bunch of Parramatta rejects, giving some lip about how bad our recruits have gone, and having the moderator of this board, side with the fool. I love seeing people who seem to take great delight when Parramatta loses so they can justify getting rid of the coach.

It's great to come here, because everyone here knows so much. They know the club's long-term strategy, they know how players are training, what their attitude is like. They really do know a lot more than a coach who has more success with this club than any other coach for almost 20 years.

For crying out loud people, I don't agree with a ton of things Brian Smith does. But I do know one thing, if we change coaches mid-year we're gone for 2004. So guess what, I'm going to support my club and the players we've got and the coach we've got for the rest of the year. And I'm going to have opinions as who should play where and why and I might even reckon that next year we look to inject some new blood into the coaching ranks if we miss the finals again this year. But I'm not going to spend all year hacking into them and I'm not going to write them off when they're sitting pretty much in the top eight. I'm not going to take some sort of perverse pleasure out of the team, or a particular strategy, or whatever not working. I'm going to hope to hell I'm wrong when i have a different opinion to the coach, because to me that's what being a fan is about. A real fan doesn't put their ego above their loyalty.

I find it laughable when people here are so quick to admonish Smith for not admitting he made a mistake or things aren't going well, when many of those same people are ten times as guilty. I didn't see too many people who one week called for Mick Vella to get the chop, admit they were wrong when the next week he came out and was just about man of the match. Or those who were so dead set against Wade McKinnon, come out and say hey he played well and their criticism was unfair.

Instead of people, trying to prove their nobs are bigger than each other, how about trying to prove its more blue and gold. How are the players supposed to have a winning positive attitude when the fans they play for, don't. Get behind the players and the coach, at least during the year. Because guess what, it does matter. Do we wonder why last week's game had such a paltry home crowd and no atmosphere. Did you hear the Fox commentators saying it would be tough for the Eels to get up for the game because the usual crowd support just wasn't there.

And to those people here, who absolutely initimidate others from sticking up for the team and coach because anyone who does seemingly gets shouted down and dismissed as someone who has no idea, you're a bunch of tossers who are only serving to poison this board and the club in general.

You have your opinion.

How come other people can't have theirs just because it is not the same as yours.

And as far as BS being the most sucessfull coach in the last 20 years, that is not a matter of opinion, that is simply not true.

It is however, good to see a loyal fan.

Well said TKBK!

Twizzle - an opinion is one thing, but as TKBK said, alot of the people who post here put their ego before their support for our team - sad, but its true......an opinion is posting your point of view (good or bad) and moving on to other things - but people go far beyond that.

And the other half are just a bunch of inflated self-serving egomaniacs with superiority complexes. What is your problem with people venting their opinions? OH, that's right - only YOUR opinion is correct!

If Parra, as you say, is so great, why aren't we doing better? It's not like we don't have the players - our key players (Hindmarsh, Dykes, Morris and Grothe) are fit and playing well. We have some young guns killing them week in week out. Our signings have been going great (Stapleton in particular). So why is it we struggle so much? THAT is why we are frustrated - because we struggle and because NOBODY (not even the coach) seems to know why.

Oh, yes. That's a truly valid perspective - "after 8 rounds, we are 6 points behind the first placed team." That's akin to saying, "Don't worry Warriors. You are only 8 points behing the first placed team! There is no need for concern!" AFTER 8 ROUNDS is the key here. It means nothing. UNLESS we played Top 8 teams week in week out in our first 8 games, which we did not.

Which brings me to my next point. Yes, we lost in overtime, and yes, we lost by four points. Both games were at home and we lost to teams we should EASILY have accounted for but didn't.

Lyon's been here for ages. Did we win a Premiership while he was here? Nope. Did we win any before he came here, but after our lasy Premiership? No. What's your point?

Beating Brissie in Brisbane is not a task for our team. We do it on a regualr basis, struggling or not. That is not a true gauge of how well we are going.

I couldn't care less about the players we let go. It's [generally] the ones we sign we have issues with. POINT: Kativerata. WHY? Depth, apparently. WHen you consider we were going after Roberts and decided on this bloke, it makes you scarthc your head in awe.

Long-term plans? How does 8 years under one coach without a Premiership sound? Long-term enough for you? That excuse is just not good enough. Sure, in the beginning Smith had to rebuild the club, and did so wonderfully. But for the past 4 or so years, his job should have been focused on WINNING the damned thing. And yet, here we are. A coach who has success? At what? World 7's Championships? Club Championships? Minor Premierships? WOW! That really makes the urge for a Premiership diminish, eh?

Who died and made you the "A real fan doesn't..." Police? People are different. FANS are different. The only people who truly aren't fans are fairweather fans who change teams when their team loses. And I don't think anyone here is a fairweather fan. So get off your high horse.

Players? If the players played well and with intensity, then we would support them as such. Barring a minimal few, for the past few years us fans have had NOTHING to cheer about.

And just so you know, I've been to EVERY home game for the Eels and most away games I could afford for the past 3 years. And I watch every game I can't go to on the TV. Does that, therefore, diminsh my opinion?

Good day.

The big thing you have to realise tkbk is that while you do visit I have seen many of your posts on the official board and this is your first here. What you will find is that the main site is HEAVILY moderated, and I stress heavily, to what the Eels Office would like people to read about. Here we all have our opinions and some have the same as you whereas on the main board heavy criticism of the team is rarely seen.

Love the passion TKBK

I hope you hang around these boards.

Our club needs more people with your commitment to our success. I agree with plenty of what you had to say!!

I'd like to make a case-in-point about people who insist that 'real' fans don't bag their team. I was sitting in my usual seat on sat night watching us struggle against inferior opposition and was becoming increasingly frustrated. Then what happens; just as we are getting ourselves back into the match, Luke Burt has a half-arsed attempt at catching a ball he should have left alone and two tackles later the cowboys score the winner. So I did what most PASSIONATE fans would do; I went off my tree!! Then some old bag who I know has an association with the club tells me to be quiet. That just set me off worse as I explained the fact that the money I spent on my season ticket gives me all the justification I need for my actions. She tried to solidify her argument with the adage, "they're doing their best." This is where her argument really sucked. If just doing your best was what the game was about then there would be no need for a scoreboard. Likewise. if our best wasn't as good as the opposition's then so be it. But the fact remains we have better players than most of the teams in the comp and are playing like a secong grade side in the local comp. Being a 'real' supporter to me means being able to seperate your fantasy from the reality that is our club's current ineptitude.

TKBK is spot on the money. I don't mind hearing SOME criticism of our team in a constructive way, but there are some people on this board who are serial whingers. Every post they write they are having a gripe and bitch about something, and find it absolutely impossible to find a glimmer of hope with anything.

I sure know I would hate to be living with some of these people, how depressing that would be.

GROW UP and go back to England, because obviously with the amount of whinging and whining that goes on they must be Poms!

Can someone explain something to me?

If I express an OPINION e.g 'I don't think thorman is a Hooker' he is a halfback and should have played of the bench against the cowboys. Will that be viewed as constructive critism or just as some of you guys put it, whinging and brian smith bashing. I bet you everyone would agree with me regardless of what they think of brian smith that Thorman should have played of the bench and not taken John Morris' spot.

So why can't we go out and say what we feel? If I express an opinion do i have to feel like I am offending someone or I am not an Eels supporter.

I think those who have a problem should get on the Chinese Forums where it is run by communists and talk about how good parra are going.

And by the way, I have always supported Brian Smith and the Eels, but like to have a friendly chat with people who discuss all football issues on how parra can IMPROVE!

seeya chaps!

Say what you feel

You don't need our permission

Its a forum, you will always have some one disagree, even if you are right.

By the same token TKBK can say what he feels as well.

He probably does not care whether every one agrees with him, nor should he/she.

A bit of friendly banter does make for interrestng reading tho.

Otherwise this palce would be boring as hell.

Imagine you had a forum were you could only talk about how good a team is going. last year this forum would have been empty for about 2 months straight. :(

I'm stoked that we are losing to crap sides and playing with no heart. Why would anyone want to criticise coach Smith. Keep up the great work. I love it!!!
