My Hindmarsh,
Half of you people are the biggest bunch of whining, egomaniac, disloyal fans I've ever seen.
Every time I visit this board, I think I've been watching the wrong competition and that Parramatta is on the bottom of the table and favourites for the wooden spoon. I would have sworn we've been losing games by 20 to 30 points week in, week out.
Then I check the table and I see we're on the same amount of points as the seventh placed team and only two points off the third placed team. And I check our last few matches and note that we lost in overtime and then just went down by four points.
I come on here and I tend to forget that we lost our best backline player in week one, the same player that every single expert said we had to keep on the park to have any chance of making the eight. And that we've had a half dozen first grade standard players on the injured bench since the start of the comp.
Its hard to remember the club spirit that was displayed when after the biggest serve any club (outside of the Bulldogs) has been dished up for a very long tome, we came back and beat Brisbane at Brisbane. Because apparently, there is no spirit or heart at the club.
I love coming here and seeing a smart arse supporter of a club who picked up a bunch of Parramatta rejects, giving some lip about how bad our recruits have gone, and having the moderator of this board, side with the fool. I love seeing people who seem to take great delight when Parramatta loses so they can justify getting rid of the coach.
It's great to come here, because everyone here knows so much. They know the club's long-term strategy, they know how players are training, what their attitude is like. They really do know a lot more than a coach who has more success with this club than any other coach for almost 20 years.
For crying out loud people, I don't agree with a ton of things Brian Smith does. But I do know one thing, if we change coaches mid-year we're gone for 2004. So guess what, I'm going to support my club and the players we've got and the coach we've got for the rest of the year. And I'm going to have opinions as who should play where and why and I might even reckon that next year we look to inject some new blood into the coaching ranks if we miss the finals again this year. But I'm not going to spend all year hacking into them and I'm not going to write them off when they're sitting pretty much in the top eight. I'm not going to take some sort of perverse pleasure out of the team, or a particular strategy, or whatever not working. I'm going to hope to hell I'm wrong when i have a different opinion to the coach, because to me that's what being a fan is about. A real fan doesn't put their ego above their loyalty.
I find it laughable when people here are so quick to admonish Smith for not admitting he made a mistake or things aren't going well, when many of those same people are ten times as guilty. I didn't see too many people who one week called for Mick Vella to get the chop, admit they were wrong when the next week he came out and was just about man of the match. Or those who were so dead set against Wade McKinnon, come out and say hey he played well and their criticism was unfair.
Instead of people, trying to prove their nobs are bigger than each other, how about trying to prove its more blue and gold. How are the players supposed to have a winning positive attitude when the fans they play for, don't. Get behind the players and the coach, at least during the year. Because guess what, it does matter. Do we wonder why last week's game had such a paltry home crowd and no atmosphere. Did you hear the Fox commentators saying it would be tough for the Eels to get up for the game because the usual crowd support just wasn't there.
And to those people here, who absolutely initimidate others from sticking up for the team and coach because anyone who does seemingly gets shouted down and dismissed as someone who has no idea, you're a bunch of tossers who are only serving to poison this board and the club in general.
