Surprise packet this summer, Grant Elliott. Full credit to the guy. He's doing a champion job. Again, it begs the question, why did he not succeed in test cricket. He has a pretty balanced technique, seems to be quite composed in the ODI game, but in test cricket he seemed to be completely overawed. If Elliott could bat at 5 in test cricket like he does in ODI cricket, and McCullum opened the innings, it would help resolve a number of issues. I wonder if its worth taking a punt on Elliott and booking him on the tour to England as a test bat.

Yes.

Happy to be proven wrong thus far

We should redo the WC draw and rig it so the Kiwis have to face us at this current WACA pitch, they haven't faced guys bowling 150km/h for a while like Cummins/Starc/Johnson on a pitch like that.

We would bowl them out for 100,lets rig this draw.
Wow... I actually wouldn't mind that...

Just for a chance to finally unleash Milne on a fast bouncy deck.

The kid has been pushing 155kms on our slow decks. He will be downright frightening at the WACA.

Yeah, was going to suggest similar - on quick decks Milne almost faster than any of the Aussies... and in the test series on slower decks Boult was bowling as quick as Johnson...

More about the pace of the wickets than the bowlers...

Milne hasn't really convinced me yet, I hope he comes right but at the moment it's all pace and no accuracy.
Good batsmen will cart him around in the 1-2 bad balls he fires in every over.

But that comes with pretty much anyone bowling that quick - Johnson and Starc can ben very expensive too - you know that with him in the team, I'd be shocked if he played and Vetorri didn't, kind of like Mills there too - then there's on most occasions 20 overs for 80 runs... I know Mills isn't flavour of the month but he's a canny bugger, and better players than Warner and Finch have struggled to get hold of him...

Starc takes a bucketload of wickets though, which Milne hasn't really done ever (so far).

I like Mills, but prefer to stick with Southee-Boult-Milne for now.

Trent Boult would destroy Australia at the WACA.

I think he'd do well there, and Brisbane - he's seriously good, the way he bowled to Kumar in the tests was astonishingly good... not quite the same with the white ball though

The scary thing for the Kiwis is that Mitch Johnson has a pretty good record against them and yet they have never had to face the proper version of Mitch Johnson,he averages 16 in Tests against them,27 in ODI's against them and 7 in Twenty20's against them and all that came about as a result of them facing the donkey version of Mitch Johnson.

They struggled with the donkey version of Johnson in the past, this Johnson could get 6-7 wickets against them and blow them away.

To be honest... With Boult I don't think the speed of the deck itself is the biggest advantage for him...

I think he would rather bowl on a slower deck with a little bit of grass on it... But more importantly with a bit of moisture in the air which will help him swing the ball.

He's a swing bowler first and foremost IMO... His pace picks up when he's in rhythm.

Geez Vettori is a classy bowler. Uses all of his experience and still provides so much value to this NZ side, with both the ball and handy lower order runs. Great player.

Boult and Southee are first and foremost swing bowlers. I think they'd kill at the Gabba in humid weather, and probably do well in Hobart with cloud around. I really don't think they'd be that deadly in Perth.

Absolutely, the way he owned Afridi was brilliant

I watched Afridi's "innings" the other day. I knew he was a myth and a massive underachiever, didn't realise he only averaged 23 though!

The Mark Phillippoussis of cricket, except he can't use injury as an excuse.
