When you look at how good the passing was to set up that try, and the speed it allowed Big T to build up, and compare it to our current team - I don't think we could string together those passes with our current squad.

We haven't had a truly competent (attacking) coach since Lang. Mind you Elliot's Panthers (stacked with talent) could really rack up the points when in the mood but they were wildly inconsistent and defence was lacking.

Lang had a simple philosophy if you saw a chance take it don't worry if you make a mistake. I would rather you take a chance than miss one.

A lot of the points in our relatively successful years under Elliott (basically just 2010) came from kicks. Short kicking was the one thing Walsh could do very well, while Coote, Gordon and a few others were great at following them up. I feel like teams were much poorer at defending bombs generally in 2010, and I think our success forced teams to become more sophisticated at defending them. I remember noticing teams being much better at setting up block plays from bombs in 2011. Gordon ascending to a higher form was obviously pretty massive.

That year was such a wasted opportunity. The Dragons were good, but Melbourne were wiped out and we were a every bit as good as any of the teams in the next tier. Flash hit the post on a sideline conversion that would have sent us to extra time against the Raiders. Instead of vaulting straight to week 3 we had to back up against the Roosters at Allianz without Pritchard and Waterhouse before losing Lewis, Cooper and Jennings in the first half. Not to mention the entire season of Purtell, god imagine if we'd never signed him.
