No link yet but reports that the Panthers have secured the services of schoolboy Greg Waddell on a $100,000 a year contract for the Next 5 years. A rival Sydney club offered him a $150,000 a year contract. He is touted as being the Hottest Prospect in the Country, Greg is still at school and hasnt even played Jersey Flegg yet.

For a kid who hasnt played Jersey Flegg, i dont know!! But good on him hope he makes it.

this kid is a freak..don't worry about that, it's great that the Penny's have held on to him slip into Melbourne or Manly's hands.

Article in the Telegraph about him.

Peter O'Sullivan (our recruiting manager), reckons he's one of the best youngster he's seen in his entire life.

From him, that's a f**king huge wrap!

In his first interview, the Australian schoolboy star said he was "stoked" that he wouldn't have to work and is hopeful of cracking the NRL next year.

That is a disturbing thing to say

This is awesome.

With Jennings already well on his way to being a superstar, and the massive wraps this kid has on him, by the end of next season, we could have a backline that looks as good as the Storm backline (minus the halves though). Throw in our monster forward pack with Petero, Woolnough, F. Puletua, F. Pritchard, Grant etc. and we're looking set for a very healthy future.

Although... we're still f*cked for halves. Especially if we do end up with Ben Jeffries.

I lost interest when you mentioned you had Woolnough in the forward line. ;-)

But in all seriousness, maybe I had the Panthers wrong. Can this kid be groomed into a 5-8th or half-back by any chance?

Not sure. Although his age is what goes against him for halves. If age isn't an issue, we do have Wade Graham, Jarrod Sammut and Masada Iosefa who are all very talented halves and easily capable of exceed the likes of Brett Firman and Ben Jeffries. All that works against these guys is lack of experience, and the fact they are young enough to play in the Under 20's comp.

I'm hoping the competition doesn't make us keep some of our young stars down a grade for a bit longer. Atleast one of those players should be given one of our spots in the halves.

Kids to big to be a half, right centre is his best position by far.

He'll have that attitude flogged out of him if/when he hits serious training.

Interesting seeing a recent story on FOX about NRL Development/recruitment officiers at a recent jnr league carnival...they mentioned how most clubs now have policies in place where kids are studying or working while developing, one officer stating how a players dad told him he didnt know whathe wanted to do, just play footy, he said the club wasnt interested in him with that attitude.

I guess this kids an exception though, bit of a gamble though- may not even make first grade.

Waddell wont be the only 16 year old on big money at Penrith, he along with Lachlan Coote and Wade Graham are the BEST 16 year olds in the state. 6 of the 9 tries NSW scored in the 17's this year went to these 3.

All three are in Year 11, Coote has played 1 game for Flegg scoring 1 try, Graham is making his debut this week and Waddell isnt far off.

Would like to see something like this for 2009.

1.Lachlan Coote
2.Michael Gordon
3.Michael Jennings
4.Greg Waddell
5.Geoff Daniela
6.Jarrod Sammut
7.Wade Graham

Waddell will eventualy move to the back row though IMO.

Daley and Fittler both had huge wraps on them and became greats no reason with the right coaching this kid cant make it either , Josh McCrone is a young half in Raiders flegg this year going to Penrith next year possibly for FG.

Mick Leary was just on 2KY radio, and stated that Waddell's contract is not worth $100,000 automatically.

He said the only way that the kid could make the $100,000, would be if he was to play 20 NRL games. He said there are triggers for pay higher than the minimum legal payment, at 5, 10, 15, and 20 games.

He also said that they were tying him up now becasue of the interest from so many other clubs, but that they were looking to bring him on more for 2009 and 2010.

I think that was pretty much it, or as much as I can remember anyway. I'm sure they will post more about the details on the official Panthers site later today.

Oh, and here is a pic of this new wizz kid

Keeping his ego under control maybe the biggest challenge not to mention resentment from fellow team mates as they may feel the kid hasnt paid his dues @ all.

Mick Leary mentioned that too, and I think that will be one of the club's priorities.......to keep him in control, and to explain the situation to the other up and coming juniors.
