I think he may be a kiwi too JJ.

really? Well, hopefully he'll make himself available for us when the time is right.

The talent there looks a bit like the cohort that came through Penrith late 80's early 90s

Izzard, Alexander, Cartwright, Geyer, Walker, Carroll, van der Voort, Fittler etc.. supplemented by some old heads Mortimer, Kelly, Dunn, Simmons, Clarke ... there seem to be parrallels - again, hopefully the Panthers are able to keep their talent

The talent at the moment at Penrith has me more excited than ever before.

There are young players Matt Elliott has in an Elite Development Program. The 6 players Matthew Elliott see's has the "cream of the crop" from the ages 15-17 are:

Lachlan Coote (Fullback) Matthew Wright(Centre/Wing) Greg Waddell (Centre/Backrow) Wade Graham (Five Eighth/Halfback) Sam Mckendry (Front Row) and Daniel Penese (Second Row)

Sorry lol!

Through articles like this i hope people start to realise what is going on out at Penrith. All this cutting of the experienced players. We desperately need a clean out and we have to feel short term pain(wooden spoon) for long term gain(a premiership)

Nah, we tend to find our youngsters before anyone else does and don't sign them off anyone elses books.

Good get for the Panfers ;-)

saints dont like kids to only have footy in their eyes....J Morris is being sent back to uni and Corey Payne recently graduated from in commerce....

Talk of him being the richest schoolboy footy player with 100/150 grand, surely if chase Stanley gets thru 20 FG games this season he will be doin pretty well...

There is another question, anyone out there know what is the most amount of FG games a kid has played whilst at school....it couldnt be an entire season, so close to 20 might be it!

Ice summed it up well.

We dont sign them unless,

a) We're the first to sign them at a very young age
b) They're a reject from another club with a desire to succeed.

The fact Peter O'Sullivan has such a huge wrap for this kid suggests to me more than anything else that he'll go a long way in footy.

Similar to the Karl McNichol to Cronulla beat up earlier this year another sensationalist newspaper article suggesting clubs are signing and paying kids who havent played any grade big dollars. Do journos know the meaning of the words 'incentive based'?
Well done to Penrith though, fantastic junior system out there and they are obviously having to work harder than ever before to hang onto theses kids before other clubs sign them up. Wont be too long before the Panthers have another team of young guns playing in a Grand Final - even with Matt Elliot in charge :p
Good luck to the kid with all the wraps on him from around the NRL I look forward to seeing him in action. And as an old boy its great to see St Dominics continue turning then out. Go Doms!

Mick Leary was just on 2KY radio, and stated that Waddell's contract is not worth $100,000 automatically.

He said the only way that the kid could make the $100,000, would be if he was to play 20 NRL games. He said there are triggers for pay higher than the minimum legal payment, at 5, 10, 15, and 20 games.

He also said that they were tying him up now becasue of the interest from so many other clubs, but that they were looking to bring him on more for 2009 and 2010.

I think that was pretty much it, or as much as I can remember anyway. I'm sure they will post more about the details on the official Panthers site later today.

Oh, and here is a pic of this new wizz kid

Reminds me a little bit of MG to look at. Hopefully he doesn't turn out to be another Barney Haslett.

He'll have that attitude flogged out of him if/when he hits serious training.

Interesting seeing a recent story on FOX about NRL Development/recruitment officiers at a recent jnr league carnival...they mentioned how most clubs now have policies in place where kids are studying or working while developing, one officer stating how a players dad told him he didnt know whathe wanted to do, just play footy, he said the club wasnt interested in him with that attitude.

I guess this kids an exception though, bit of a gamble though- may not even make first grade.
That was the Raiders ... Talked to some hooker but since he didn't know what he wanted to do if footy didn't pan out they parted ways.

That kind of money isn't that huge when you think about it... Considering that next season the average first grade salary is around 150-180 and your talking about an immense talent like Waddell it's hardly the worst investment.

Working as a brick layer will give him plenty of size aswell(if that does happen), heard Manly are doing that with Kieran Foran next year.

Dont know anything about this kid, but the stuff being written in the paper is pretty ridiculous. They always fail to mention that deals like this are heavily based on incentives/KPI's.

And as if a 16 year old kid needs to read sh*t like "leagues best ever prospect". Hopefully hes got a good coach and guidance to keep his head from exploding.
