Panthers sack Griffin 4 weeks from finals

You only have to watch the Matty Johns Show tonight to hear Gus contradict himself. They show a clip from 100% Footy in July where he denies:

* That he was involved in any aspect of coaching the side

* That there was no internal review taking or had taken place

Yet in August;

* There was an internal review that had taken place previously and Griffen was lucky not to be sacked at the completion of that review

* He has helped coached the side “here and there” and in the pre-season
Hes running a club its his job to lie really

Sure that's it.

Lied about the state of the club in 2015.
Lied about his relationship with staff and players.
Hates Gus.

Totally reliable narrator that one.
I've said before Gus is theatrical and dramatic. Thinks he's Churchill at the hight of his powers or something.

Saying that I'd still rather a lie than bury the coach in the media. I would have been pretty angry if he did.
Contradictory? or is it ok to lie when it suits YOUR agenda?

Genuine question, Where has there been any proof that the players didn’t like Griffin? Because Sege or sowie said so... two players who got punted by him? They wouldn’t have an axe to grind would they? In the paper it said nearly every player had sent Griffin messages of support, seems an odd thing to do if they hated him.

Gus also actually backed away from that comment on the footy show saying he didn’t lose the dressing room but the players were just ‘confused’ by the direction of the game plan the last couple of weeks.

I’ve been a massive fan of what Gus has done for our club, but this is a shit show & he brought it on our club by putting his ego & personal agenda first.

You have to be very careful with your lies, because when found out they damage your credibility and people are then entitled to think everything you say is lies. This is why it's such a challenging and highly paid job.

Nothing justifies the timing. This is a coach who was set to make the finals 3 years in a row. Something very difficult to achieve in such a competitive league. This is more NFL than EPL. 2 wins from first place, unless the Panthers win it all there will always be a "what if" cloud hanging over the decision.

Sacking a coach mid season and mid contract when he is consistently building a finals contender is insanity. We always hear it is a result orientated business, well he was getting better results than almost anyone and he got sacked. Gus is building up incredible expectations, if they don't win it all this year or next he should be sacked himself.

Nothing contradictory about it. I said to you just a post ago I like to varify what Gus says because he's untrustworthy. As the guy who runs the football it's literally his job to lie. Big difference to slinging mud to save your reputation when you get sacked for being a turkey.

@OldPanther

You've racked up 136 posts in this thread, raise the keyboard for us when you hit 150.

Something wrong with engaging with the diacussion? If so I'll just stick to the Panthers forum from now on.

It's the general manager of footballs job to straight up lie on his paid media appearances & on twitter...
Yet you're bent out of shape with Griffin "lying" in his tell all interview...

Gus lying about Hook not being under threat is the equivalent of a coach having the full support of the board. It's shit that they lie..but until the person is officially axed it's easy to see why they lied.

It destroys his credibility... but he can't exactly confirm the coach is going to be sacked before he is. The second that's confirmed publicly its impossible for him to do his job. The media just don't let up on these things.

He was protecting the club and Griffin from the media shit Storm if he says no comment(basically saying yes) or says it's true Vs Griffin shitting on the club to try and save his own skin. Motive is a big difference here.

Gould is creating the media shit storm with the blurred lines between being the famous Gus and his role as GM of Football.
Accusing fans and journalist of lying while acting holilier than thou and then being caught out is pretty cringe.

Yes Gus needs to learn to just shut up but he can't help himself. I hope we get Ivan after his contract ends and Gus takes a step back to be honest.

Is Penrith's apparent ability to come from behind late in matches to grab a win down to Griffin's coaching or is he to blame for the slow starts and getting behind on the scoreboard?
