they already have allowances for that built in re:Mateo.
Giving teams the ability to spread the impact over several years would make it easier to manage.
If you are already committed to next years contracts you can make allowances for the following years. Most teams will have some room the next year but will definitely not have themselves entirely committed 2 - 3 years down the track

last i heard was he was off to Penrith http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2009/10/16/148525_sport.html

But life on the rugby league paddock is set for another change from next season for Kingston.

The 26-year-old hooker is preparing to joining his third club in as many seasons, with the Penrith Panthers his new home after signing for them this week.

Admitting it was tough to leave the Eels, Kingston was grateful for the opportunity presented by Panthers coach Matt Elliott.

"It is disappointing to be leaving (the Eels) but I feel good to be able to extend my career by another year because half way through the year it looked like I was staring down the barrel of retirement."

"There were a few opportunities at different clubs but what struck me was Matty Elliot, and I had a chat with him and he sounded really nice."

"I also had a chat to a few guys at the club, including former Titan Gavin Cooper and he couldn't say enough nice words about the place so."

After coming so close in 2009, Kingston believes the Panthers are a club on the rise.

Sad to see the guy go, but i guess we can't keep everyone. Does this open the door for anthony mitchell??

oh ok, thanks stagger. Haven't seen much of anthony, is he ready for a bench spot? did he play much wenty this year. Sorry this probably already has been done to death on here..lol

Just wondering on kris keating and where he will fit in now, will he start off the bench and replace his brother or will robson go to bench or wenty. Good situation to be in i guess if you were DA.

Panthers sign Kingston from Eels

October 20, 2009 - 5:34PM

AAP

The Panthers have signed Parramatta's grand final hooker Kevin Kingston after he was forced out of the club by the salary cap.

Kingston was hopeful of staying with the Eels, with the hooker even offering to hand back his match payments in order to remain at the club.

But Panthers boss Michael Leary said they were eager to poach the 26-year-old to fill the void left by rake Paul Aiton's departure to the Sharks.

"Kevin is an ideal player for our team having gained a lot of experience in making it to this year's grand final," he said.

Kingston put pen to paper on Tuesday to the one-year contract.

Following him out west is Canberra winger Adrian Purtell who also signed with the Panthers on Tuesday to a two-year deal.

Although Purtell's career has been disrupted by injury and poor form, Leary said he was confident the 24-year-old would add depth to the side.

Penrith have been on a signing spree of late, after already obtaining the services of controversial Tigers prop Daine Laurie and Canberra second-rower Nigel Plum.

Salary cap problems at Parramatta enable Panthers to bag a bargain

BYJOHN MACDONALD

20/10/2009 2:30:00 PM

Kingston told the Star last week all chance of remaining at Parramatta had gone.

"It's imminent and it's nice to be wanted, Penrith are a very strong club,'' said the Cronulla reject who became a key member of Parramatta's run to the NRL grand final this season.

"Parramatta tried every avenue to keep me and I was blown away by the support I received,'' he said of offers from other Eels' players to drop payments so Parramatta could fit him under the salary cap.

"But Ian Schubert said no,'' he said of the NRL's auditing officer and his assessing of Kingston as a $110,000-a-season man.

Kingston said he wouldn't be receiving that but a base $50,000 contract at Penrith because of their own salary-cap problems.

Kingston, 26, said although his nominal value might now be high it wouldn't be reflected in his wallet, and his wife would still have to work.

Still, Kingston said he couldn't be disappointed with how things had panned out.

"It was pretty special and it was a privilege to be part of such a great team,'' he said.

Penrith coach Matthew Elliott said Kingston's arrival would be ``a massive positive''.

"He buzzed them up a bit when he came on in the second half and he has that grand-final experience now,'' he said of Kingston's Parramatta form.

Elliott said Kingston's departure from a club he wanted to stay at was nothing new under the salary cap.

Penrith have lost hooker Paul Aiton to Cronulla but Elliott said he hadn't given any thought yet to Kingston as starting hooker or bench impact player, as he was with Parramatta. Elliott said he had much faith in 20-year-old hooker Masada Iosefa.

Time to move on. I think the eels are well covered for hooker: the Keatings, Jeff Robson, Anthony Mitchell.

Yeah, I did post that, and I did have it on good authority that they were VERY keen on him.
Even though you might not agree with my opinions, I do REALLY appreciate you defending to the death my right to express them.
