Our trials have been very poor in first grade. This team was near full strength and got pumped. Need to improve alot in the next 2 weeks.

Hmmmm. Interesting finish. I hope Ivan's plan is lulling the opposition into a false sense of security. Still plenty to improve on.

Massive props to Forty20 for the live stream. The NRL should give him serious consideration for the next rights deal. Better quality than nein.

There was nothing wrong with the performance. Their tries (besides the first of the second half which I missed) were real trial game tries which won't happen with first grade intensity. Our backline plays looked fantastic and will destroy poor defensive teams and find out any lapses in good defensive teams. Our middle defence is fine, edge defence there were some alarm bells but still looks more 2014 than 2013 to me. But, to put it realistically, our front row go forward and play the balls as it stands, are shit, amongst the worst in the league, and even moving players and playing our best front row possible I don't think we can win a premiership with it.

Get Merrin and have one of either Manu or BMM in the rotation too then we're a real good chance.

It is good to know Cleary and Gould seem to see it more or less the same given who we're chasing and where Manu has been trialling.

Thanks soc, glad you guys enjoyed the stream! Was a great day of footy with the lower grades for both sides shaping up nicely. As a Parra fan it was nice to notch up a win over your team in the main event given the strength of your squad but as we all know it is only a trial.

Good luck in the season proper!

First half McKendry and Latimore went toe to toe in the slowest play the ball in the world competition, honours split, RCG and Kite came on, RCG a bit harder to put down but pretty much resumed the competition. Idris was the best bringing it out of our own end, then Jennings but that isn't saying much. After 25 mins Cartwright, Lats and Idris looked f**ked.

First time they went left they should have scored but their centre and winger were on top of each other. On the right Jamie shot up and stopped one play forcing a mistake, Cartwright shot up twice and missed the tackle but forced them back inside and stopped the play. Cartwright got steamrolled by Hoppa on a kick return.

BMM came on the left side for Cartwright, Manu has had 5mins at lock, both playing with more intensity like a first grade spot is on the line.

Their tries were bullshit, a crap ricochet kick and Kite attempting to ball play throwing an easy intercept.

Our tries were good, simple cut out from Segs to Wallace to Whare for a catch and pass to Simmons. And a beautiful set play from a scrum where Idris catches the ball on their line, turns and shovels it back to Moylan as he's hit and catch and pass for Moylan and BMM to put Jennings over.

We looked very sharp and lively in the first 50 minutes of the game.

From then on,match fitness on a few players more than told on the rest of the team.

Parra looked the goods when allowed, but as you said Chris,Parra would have been a little happier if they scored a few more well constructed tries rather than from the errors from Penrith.

But one things for sure,Parra will not get a hattrick of wooden spoons.

They've got some hearty defense in that performance which bustled the Panthers into errors.

A bit of Watnough influence rubbing off on the Eels.;-)

With the team we had named I did expect more from us but full credit to your guys, they played well. We had some very sharp looking backline plays but other than that there was not much to get excited about, hopefully the boys lift the intensity in a fortnight.

Sharks got the spoon last year so we can't get a hat trick of spoons

The Eels have out-played the Panthers in a high intensity trial match at Pepper Stadium this evening, going home with a 30-22 win.
Despite the score, Ivan Cleary and his team can take plenty of positives away from the game, with Jamal Idris, Sam Mckendry and Dave Simmons all making impressive returns from injury.

George Jennings scored two tries and we saw some great defence by the whole Panthers outfit.

Here’s how the match played out.
The Panthers scored the first try of the match 8 minutes in after James Segeyaro scooped the ball up from dummy half, spun on his heel and sent it to Captain Peter Wallace, who flicked it to Dean Whare who then lobbed a pass out to an unmarked Dave Simmons on the wing, and he sprinted the last few metres to get the ball down over the line. Jamie Soward’s sideline conversion sailed straight through the posts to put Penrith in front 6-0 lead.

The next 20 minutes saw the ball bounce from one end of the field to the other, but the defence from both sides stood strong. That was until a bit of a miscommunication 30m out from the Eels line when a Parramatta grubber kick hit the feet of Soward and bounced back into the hands of a Parra player. Play continued, which caught our boys off-guard and left several Eels players unmarked, including Reece Robinson. After being handed the ball on the sideline he jogged 15m to get it over the line. The conversion was successful, so the scores drew level at 6-6.

A few minutes later the Panthers hit back after some quick passes to the left saw Ben Murdoch-Masila throw a beautiful ball to George Jennings, who dodged a couple of Eels defenders to get over the line and score. Soward’s kick sailed straight through the posts to put Penrith head again 12-6.

With three minutes until the half time break, Parra’s Reece Robinson bagged his second try after intercepting a Panthers pass on our 20m line and sprinting 80m down the field to score unopposed. They once again evened the score at 12-12 as the siren sounded.
HALF TIME: 12-12

Reece Robinson scored his hat trick for the Eels a few minutes into the second half after he was left unmarked near the sideline, and sprinted past several Panthers defenders to get the ball down. He converted his own try to put Parra ahead 18-12.
But it wasn’t long before Penrith hit back with another Jennings try, and this time it was younger sibling Robert who was on the end of some quick passes from Wallace, Moylan and then Whare, who flicked it to the 19 year old sending him sprinting to the line. Sowie’s kick was waved away, so the score went to 18-16.

Parra crossed for their fourth try after being awarded a penalty 20m out from their line and taking a quick tap, before fullback Will Hopoate scooted around the back of our defenders and ran in to score. The conversion extended their lead to 24-16 in the 52nd minute.
10 minutes later they were over again after taking advantage of a huge overlap in players. Corey Norman threw a massive cut out pass to Semi Radradra on the sideline, who sprinted over to score. The conversion pushed them even further out in front 30-16.

With less than 5 minutes on the clock, George Jennings scored his second try of the game! After being left unmarked on the sideline, he collected a quick flick pass from Will Smith and ran over the line to score. Sowie’s conversion added the extra two, narrowing the score line to 30-22.

FULL TIME: 30-22 Eels

Seems that no injuries came out of the game for both sides.*relief*

Parra have a player on report for attacking the head of Moylan.

Clearly you didn't watch the game? They worked a try the rest off mistakes from us. They held possession well & got the result. If that's round 1. Idris stays on, Seg gets more game time. We don't play a forward pack underdone. It allowed a few guys to run out cobwebs. Play a few kids & try a few plays the latter we did well.

Darcy lussick was the high shot. He also had an icepack on his leg out the back of the stadium before half time.
He didn't look in too much distress though.

For us, I was pleased with our ball movement and thought our tries were well constructed rather than just capitalising on mistakes. The two jennings boys were impressive. George put on some good contact in defence and robert has a good leap.

Gees sika has trimmed alot of kg and looks better for it. Also jamal looks in better condition than last year.......cannot wait for the season to start :)

We should be looking to really touch up Parra today

Why would you say that? Our kids are a year older and Watmough has brung (brang?) the toughness. We also got rid of Jarryd 'Poison' Hayne from the club.

You guys outplayed us on the edges but we smashed you in the middle, and as the last two premiers have shown us, the modern game is all about winning in the middle.
