Just wondering if there is any chance this team could one day play in the Super League again?

I never knew much about them or their history as I didn't have the Internet, but could and should they come back?

I'd love some insight from fans of French RL, would a team like Toulouse be better, or would a Paris team bring more to the table in regards to sponsorship and media exposure?

I think it's a real pity this team folded, the name is known all over the world thanks to the soccer team, as usual with RL, if they had only stuck with it. :x

Nothing to do with sticking with....everything to do iwth having done the correct planning and preparation, and having a good business plan and strategy.

Only RL can make such a c**k up of having a brand like PSG welcomed into our sport....

Paris St Germain could be revived. But not until after Toulouse as well as Les Catalans in the south, where all the players and hard core spectators currently are, have been well established in Super League.

There needs to be a solidly based Toulouse and Catalans participation in Super League before a Paris venture is started -- first, to get the French media to take the game seriously, and secondly to increase the French player numbers. That means both southern clubs should have good revenue streams (spectators and sponsors), good structures in place and functioning effectively for junior development, and reasonable success on the field. Once all that has been realised then we can start to work realistically towards a Paris St. Germain Super League franchise.

Paris St Germain will need not only a good businesss plan this time, but also a local amateur and junior competition in place before the professionals kick off their first ball. I see no reason why the Federation cannot start working on that player base now. However the Toulouse franchise and creating its solid foundations must be the first priority. Consolidation in the heartlands must precede expansion to undeveloped areas.

Making rugby league take root in alien soil is not easy, as we have seen in Melbourne (where millions of dollars of News Ltd money has been invested), not to mention London. But once we have created success in Catalonia and Toulouse -- which should result over time in a surplus of Super League quality players beyond what Les Catalans and Toulouse can provide slots for --- then I see no reason why we cannot succeed next time in Paris.

I would love to see a Paris St Germain team admitted to SL in 2012. But realistically it could take until 2015. All will depend on how quickly Toulouse (not yet approved) can establish itself and succeed.

There is a local amateur competition, not a huge one, but there is one. Pretty sure they also have a junior competition

the PSG-RL has had none links with the NGO PSG-Soccer

the PSG-RL was a independant NGO into the multisports NGO PSG-Omnisports (born 1992, died 2002 or the toy of a man).
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSG_omnisports

the PSG-RL constituted end 1995 fell in bankruptcy in may 1997.
for continuation of and to finish the 1997 ESL season, the Paris-RL has been constituted by the FFR.13

Attendance: the entry for all games was fully free; if for the 1st game we were around 17,000 spectators after the attendance regularly decreased
(between June and Sept. 1997 we were no much than 2,000 up to 2,500 spectators and, for several games, the English fans were more numerous than the French)

Results:
it is the FFR.13 which took in charge the bankruptcy of the PSG-RL and the charges of the Paris-RL: between 450,000€ and 500,000€
to pay the 450,000€ up to 500,000€ in 7/8 years, the FFR.13 has been obliged to make loans (for around the same amount) with the banks and international sport organisations

Paris and its suburb are soccer fans and not rugby fans
(even if Paris area is the 1st regional committee in officially registered players for the FFRU: more than 29,000 ,
the figure for FFR.13 in the same Paris area are around 490 ;
note: in the same Paris area the figures for officially registered players are :
. soccer: around 236,000 ,
. lawn tennis: around 230,000 , judo or golf: around 102,000 ,
. horse sports: around 85,000 , basket ball: around 51,000 ,
. karaté: around 48,000 , handball: around 46,000 , table tennis: around 30,000 ,
. american football: around 4,000 , australian football (2nd year of existence): around 100

despite of that you think Paris and its area have never been and RL area:
maximun around 30 clubs in the years 30s and 50s and , maximun around 20 clubs in the years 70s (FFR.13 figures)

the Paris area is the region Ile de France (11,700,000 inhabitants) you can see in the subject Maps

Yeah it was a crying shame especially after that first match when 17K turned out, but it was a show and it was never really going to last.

Perhaps one day and I'm thinking atleast another 15years we may see another effort, however there are more important subjects on the table Tolouse Olympic being one.

Tolouse will give both the RFL and FFRXIII a fair indication as to where the game is and where it could go. I believe that it will be a tough slog but perhaps one worth battling as the growth of RL really needs this.
