And I simply mentioned that in the case of your example, the players in question were also drinking in the presence of coaches, club administrators, and other assorted staff at a sponsor's function. If you're expecting the players to shoulder some of the blame based on what Stewart and Watmough did later on, why not them too?

I think the 100K will make sure next time manly officials act differently.

I agree. But why ban the players from drinking? Why not, instead, hit the players involved? For example, Stewart and Watmough can pay all or 50% of the fine out of their salaries...they acted like tools, they should be punished...not the guys who did the right thing.

I didnt say ban them.

All I've said, if something was put in place, it would need to have been done in consultation with the players

Sure, I'm just saying, we've had enough incidents thats it's time the responsible players took a bit of ownership and looked out for their mates.......

i just saw this on the news. what is he smoking??? when the NRL itself says its silly and unrealistic, what makes him think he can carry it off?

also regular breath and urine tests...wow. what a way to build club unity. treating your players like convicts. GREAT WORK DENIS.

They are tested for dope etc now. They should not have put up with this, but they did.

Again - it might not be a good idea, but there is precedent for enforcing these sort of privacy invasions. "Innocent until proven guilty" means nothing when it comes to drug testing - that includes legal and illegal drugs.

does anyone else think this is just a knee jerk reaction from him after what was said to him on the bsb on friday?

Fun times ahead for the anti-RL media mafia in Sydney.

How long until a player is photgraphed outside a pub and the outraged articles from the usual suspects start?

oh! he got hammered by Terry Kennedy wow :sarcasm:[/quote

so your saying after he was called out on the subject on air he chose not to say a word about the subject and just play dumb making him look like a goose

I've heard plenty of Fitzy's segments on the BSB which is predominantly used to advertise the LC, didn't hear the one in question last friday but was told that he was made to look like a goose by TK, if any CEO lets TK get over the top of you than they should quit their post right away...

I mean TK really...

I did hear the news 2nite say that Josh has made his own decision well before all the Manly sh*t that he was not going to drink this year

after his performance last night he may need to re-consider it...

seriously though, this sort of thing is simply not workable.

I think it's getting beyond a joke some of this drug testing for professional athletes. As well as being a league fan I'm also a tennis fan and several top players such as Serena Williams and Andy Murray have been complaining about recent testing procedures.

Apparently all players need to ring the ITF every single morning and confirm their whereabouts for a specific hour of that day just in case they're planning on randomly testing them. So basically they need pick their own hour, like "I'll be at this address location between 5-pm". They need to do this every single day. And let's remember this is an individual sport when 10 months of the year is spent travelling the world. If a drug tester rocks up and the player is not where they said they would be at that time, then they get a strike. 3 strikes and it's a 3 month ban.

Not quite relevent in comparison to the NRL but if they keep making conditions stricter and stricter, not just in league but in pro sport alone it's going to get to a point where you cannot live your own life.

When I first heard the alcohol ban being talked about I thought it was ridiculous too.But after I thought about I realised that nothing else has worked up until now and anything is worth discussing.

As much as we like to think it is only a tiny minority of players who have difficulty holding their liquer and behaving appropriately-deep down we all knwo the truth is far from that. This is a wide spread problem in this particular employee group.

Also I don't see the outrage-P plate drivers currently have a zero alcohol ban on them .Who thinsk that is inappropriate?easy to enforce?Personally I don't think an idea should be discountd merely becaue it is difficult to enforce.

Yeah, whether one agrees with it or not, surely it is worthy of atleast discussing?

What Denis has done right here with this idea/back page is get Parra some instant credit among parts of the community - casual and potential fans - who have turned away from rugby league in the last 5-10 years.

All it says is that it's his idea, he'll put it to the NRL, the NRL probably won't like it, and then he'll think about putting it to Parra players. Random person on the street (not a footy/NRL fan) will think (after recent headlines), at least someone is trying to do something, and that Parra club must be a good forward thinking/family club etc.

So it has the potential to put our club in teh box seat when attracting new casual/potential fans in the Sydeny area, who might come to the game (once it sorts its alcohol sh*t out) and come to our club as their choice of club to support when/if they do.

I was with some friends today - none of whom support rugby league anymore, mostly ex Doggies fans who lost interest after the salary cap rort and Coffs - and that was pretty much their reaction... "at least Parra's trying to do something about all this".

I'm not bothered by this story or Fitzy's quotes in it all personally.

Thats right Bart, if people actually looked at the quotes, they're pretty benign.

It was pretty funny seeing Joel Reddy on the news asked about it.....duty free grog in hand 'umm...yeah....it's for my girlfriend'
