I like your way of thinking though Ron. I'd rather expect us to lose and be pleasantly surprised with us winning, then expect us to win, but then be dissapointed when we're beaten. Confidence and cockiness are closer than we think.

I would rather play them (and any presumably top four/two team) a few weeks into the comp, not first up like this year. That was a harsh wake-up call.

At the same time it was the wake up call we needed. The side responded well with tough wins over Brisbane and Nrwcastle. I'd be worried if we put in a performance like that again first up next year. With a full strength side we'd have no excuses for losing. All Smith's good work in recruiting in the pre season would suddenly come undone.

Full Strength wont be reached straight away. Surely there will be injuries which would limit Smiths ability to name the best team.

In the first round though you'd think we'd be relatively injury free, just as we were this year.

Hindy was injured during the trials. It depends. Hindy was lucky to come back. Even if they are named they might not be playing uninjured.

That's true. We'll have to wait and see how they go. Injuries are going to happen throughout the season, we just have to hope they're not as lengthy as this year's ones.

Dont expect all the new players to just gel after one week ... it aint gonna happen ... we will know by about week 10 where the eels are going next year.
