Game of the year :sarcasm:

I thought the Eels were unlucky with some of the calls at the ground, especially the one against Moi Moi that led to the 2 points (hit him on the chest and slid up) although there were a few shitty calls for the Knights too.

Good luck next week..

Cheers Apey. The refs were f**king woeful in general, as you said it goes both ways.

We need to get the stupid stuff out of our game. The play the balls by Mannah and Morgan, Hayne off the kickoff, our halves kicking on the third tackle etc. It killed our momentum far more than the 50/50s by the refs.

Back to the drawing board for Kearney as we are staring down the barrel of another 30 point shellacking by the dragons.

We miss grothe badly

We sure do. I heard from a very good source the other day as to to reason why he "retired" at the end of last year which doesn't paint a good picture.

On the plus side Atkins did alright with his kick returns. It's hard for the outside backs to make metres in wet weather footy. They might make a good run, but then get driven back 5 metres due to the slippery surface.

I'm never one to normally blame the refs for the loss but seriously they were worse than shocking tonight!! Unbelievably bad on numerous occasions. Having said that the Knights played the smarter football in the conditions and the eels looked very uncreative minus Hayne. Disappointing!

At least we lost a close game. It's been a long time since that's happened. The "lads" should be better off from it.

Big positive is the defence from tonight if the boys keep that up it'll be a close game next week against dragons.
Assuming a big crowd at parra for next week I think we will go closer than people think to winning next week. Only if we get the stupid penalties out of the game

We have absolutely no chance against the dragons.

Ugly conditions, ugly match.

In the end the dodgy penalty against Fui made the difference between two pretty ordinary sides. No real star quality on show out there in either of the line-ups, these are two sides that won';t make the 8. Disappointing that SK couldn't get the side "up" for this game, coming off a decent win.

Compared to the performance of the Cowboys tonight, where you could see the class of guys like Bowen and the young prop in #10 shine through - they've got more going on up there this year than we could hope for, Hayne included. At least we weren't as bad as the Roosters...

I liked the Cowboys enthusiasm, they run hard and look sharp....

We look tired and uninterested for most of the match imo.....we have been that way for years for the most part.......

I am still unconvinced by the coach, regardless of the squad, there has not been an ounce of change in attitude.......

Gidley stops Horo with exactly the same tackle as Fui got penalsied for 5 mins from the end of the game, nothing from the dopes in the middle.

When we were pulled back from a long break for whatever, Hindy asks Suttor ,"what was that for", Suttor " a knock on", Hindy looking dumbfounded " where". The anwer from Suttor " somewhere'.

We wonder why we don't win under certain refs, he is a merkin

Did it rain for the whole 80 minutes in the Cowboys game ? pretty hard to play high quality in conditions like last night at newcastle.

Also couldn't get the boys "up" for the game - what a load of crap we only lost by 2 points due to a stupid penalty. The boys were definitely up for the game and defended very well just our crappy kicking game didn't help.

Hi all. This game was of a terrible standard. Both teams looked lost in attack - which made it look like both defences were great. IMO, at least Newcastle can say they are just out of form and can somewhat blame their lack of cohesion on losing Mullen.

I said before that I was concerned with Kearney's "vision" for this side. This whole "structured" approach (mimicking Melbourne, if you will) does not guarantee success - especially when you do not have the players to pull it off. The reason I liked Anderson as a coach was because he saw our limitations and developed a style of play to make us competitive - rather than trying to force players to play a certain style. Even last year, if a few things went our way we make the 8 and who knows what would have happened? I believe he would have had a long term plan (despite what the propaganda machine wants you to think) but was doing what he could to keep us competitive in the meantime. I guess we'll never know the real truth there.

On the other hand, Kearney seems happy to keep banging his head against the same brick wall each week. It is obviously not working but he keeps going believing it will happen...I'm not so sure. I am pretty confident it won't happen this year anyway. I will reserve my judgement for Kearney and his plans after next year.

Anyway, there's still a long way to go this season. I watch with interest as it all unfolds. Go the Eels!
