Maybe the Tigers have spent more on their 19 year olds. The only one in our top 30 is Talagi.
I think that reflects our mismanagement of the juniors during covid. We are currently exposed with a cavernous lack of NRL ready junior depth right now, compared to other teams.

Let's be realistic when have our Junior depth been good?

2004-209?

2016/17/19 we did really well in Ball. Assuming that Ball is the benchmark these days.

2016/17/18/20/21/22/23/24 for Matts.

I would be interested to see how many other teams picked the eyes out of our squads. That would determine if we have failed to develop or failed to retain or both.

Just because we won doesn't mean we have developed the kids coming through though.

2023 ball side and some really good kids in it and so far Blaize and Sanders are the only ones to come into first grade with Boods /Guymer possibly next year.

It looks like Rankin had got the Flegg team firing now that he may have less interference from the first grade coach....

The Flegg team started their good run of from in Round 6. Your speculation doesn’t add up.

Round 8 Merkin we started winning.

Plus doesn't mean there is a correlation with us winning and BA getting the ass ffs

If you know for a fact that the NRL coach has influence on who is playing in what grade and when vs merkins in pathways like the Ball and Flegg coaches, Josh Hodgson Adam Fairley etc, then fair plplay.
Surely the NRL coach at every club has influence over the lower grades and has input on potential future NRL players positions they should be playing

You will have to drill down on this with @JokerEel . I assume that he has some evidence on players not being used or being played out of position in Flegg that justifies his claim of BA interference, to the team’s detriment.

It was good when we were cheating the cap. Ethics aside, cheating is a sign that a club gives a shit about results because cheating costs money. There is usually an element of laundering going on there, think Sharp's comment about needing to spend $300k for $30k benefit outside the cap, so it's not cheap. Anyway the year after we got caught cheating we won SG Ball and lost the NYC grand final. We were surely spending big on junior 'development' (recruitment/retention) back then. Are we spending big now? We still have most of the best players from last year's SG Ball side, and this year Ball finished top five without Talagi, Arthur or Tuivati.

Arthur's team won the under 20s back in the day so he probably knows what it takes. Or more likely he had nothing to do with the Flegg side other than tracking the development of the handful of NRL hopefuls.

When did we cheat the cap again?

It doesn't add up. The NRL coach would have f**k all to do with the junior rep teams other than observing to make recommendations on potential NRL players. But there is already an entire staff to do that job.

I'd say for sure with the full time payers (including top 30 and supplementary list players) in reserve grade but not for Flegg or SG Ball. Evidence for this is Talagi's experience in the lower grades. He played exclusively at centre last year in SG Ball and hardly played there since, including in reserve grade.
