How good are the Penrith pathways going! Looks like the James Packer cash might've finally run out.

So what your saying is the league's club is about to go belly up? As all packer did was bail them out when the debt was being called in.

I'm saying having strong pathways is an expensive venture. Will we be able to maintain the fulltime pathways staff forever? I remember a few years ago, after Covid scuttled our pathways funding, Grima mentioned on TCT that it was the first year he could remember where one of the teams (Matts/Ball, I can't remember) was entirely composed of local juniors.

Maybe they are ahead of the curve. The gun half that we saw in the trial was pinched from Storm SG Ball. Maybe they have followed the Roosters model of having pretty good sides and picking the eyes out of others ?

Just spitballing here.

Well that was my point. Can we support it indefinitely? If you have a pool of funds (e.g. a massive loan from a friend of your GM) you can spend more than your income, at least for a time. But eventually it is unsustainable, and you have to lower your spending to match your income.

Penrith didn't get a massive loan from a friend to pay for their football department.

Yes if the club can afford it through membership sponsorship ect nothing is stopping them continuing it.

ffs

“I don’t think anyone truly understands what the situation was here at Penrith,” said Gould, who had to convince good mate and billionaire James Packer to give the Panthers Group a loan — just days within liquidation of debts amounting to $90 million.
