Andrew Johns said on 2MMM last night that Jarryd would need 6 months during the off season to make the switch to 5/8th. Sterlo agreed. They both said that he is forced to play the dominant roll at the eels because we have halves who can create anything. So basically he is a victim of our crap team.

My take on his comments about playing 5/8 is that he has almost certainly had discussions with kearney on the topic, and he was being solid with those plans.

I reckon he is copping it very unfairly from some parra fans.

He has clearly adjusted his game massively to the style the coach wants him to. Not only that, he is doing it beautifully. He is playing much better than people are giving credit when you consider that he has had to make considerable changes to his style.

People are fixating on his kick returns and perceptions about effort when he is actually working his arse off, as well as being very unselfish in modifying the style he is playing.

It has cost him the flashy moments from his game; it has cost him a rep jumper that obviously means a lot to him.

He is carrying our team single handedly and yet a bug potion of our own fans are kicking him?
Well said BF, I can't believe some of the crap he cops on here.

gee if only you could give the same excuses to the rest of the team that you give Hayne. Every one of them are "working their arses off" as you put it. People expect players to play to their ability and pay packets, that is why the better players get payed more and in turn more is expected of them.

You will get no arguments from me about his form or value to the team. I am definitely not bagging his on field work.

i'm sorry Bert but your a bit out of touch with todays game, i'd be chasing Matt Johns to coach the halves. I hate the bloke with a passion but he knows his footy and seems to get his point across.

I'm bagging his non-5/8 work.

His kick returns are weak and he barely talks at the back. Often spends the first three tackles in defence with his back to the game, lazily strolling around behind the line.

HaHa is already a five-eighth. Chuck the damned 6 on him and put someone at the back who can do what needs to be done there as HaHa rarely does it.

You know, I think Ricky is judged harshly.

He won a premiership with the Roosters in his first year. He turned the Sharks into a formidable outfit. At the peak of Cronulla's 'powers', so to speak, the Bird and Latu incidents happened and played a huge role in their finals campaign coming to a screeching halt. The following season they were absolutely crippled by injuries to key players and have never regained their confidence since.

People seem to think that he ran the club into the ground. In-fact it was the opposite until fate intervened.

Just sayin'

Any coach who gets rid of degois to sign cory hughes as a creative hooker should never coach again

Furthermore, any coach who doesn't rate Hayne as one of the best 17 players in NSW should have been drowned at birth.

and i take the point that two of the greatest ever (joey and Sterlo) are making, sure.

but if are halves are indeed so crap, what really is the difference if he plays 5/8 now or not.....they almost contradict themselves by saying that our halves are so crap so he ends up being the dominant playmaker.....i mean what is expected to do then, play two positions, fullback and 5/8 the entire game????

anyway, as much as i have wanted this, his comments pretty much solidified the fact that he will be continuing to play fullback....that and the fact that we have now signed two additonal halves for next season....
