Parramatta Leagues Club board sacked, administrator appointed

if they all voted yes last time we wouldn't be going through this again

As the first speaker of the night said, if Max's motion was passed the first time we'd have 5/7 of the board voted in by the members already and be voting in the final 2 board members this year. I noticed that those who kept saying they want this motion to go through didn't refute that or wanted anything to do with that remark.

so you mean he is asking lc members to put forward names for board members?
because that could also mean he wants to put lc members on the board

i bags chairman!

The board has to be made up of LC members with 3 year consecutive memberships. The person who put this idea forward said he'd probably vote for Max's reforms if he knew who the board is going to be, but I reckon if it came down to it if his mates aren't on that list he'd still vote them down

What is the difference going to be if Max appoints the first board anyway? They will have to be voted upon in subsequent years anyway won't they?

If Max thinks that him coming up with 7 people initially will get rid of the factions because they will just walk away, then he purely has no idea who is dealing with.

These people have been playing their factional games for a decade now, if it takes them three more years to get control I can't see them going away anytime soon.

Only 2 people will be replaced per election cycle so it would effectively take 9 years to change the entire board and rely on the existing factions members who may get onto the board to remain whilst the remainder get elected

The vote did not get up, only got 56%.
Nearly 250 people voted.
Apart from the shonky vote Yes handouts, I think there was a lot of people who would have voted against that didn't turn up tonight (I know of 6 votes at least).

That said, Roy's team managed to get approx. 140 votes which is 39 more than they got last time.
I reckon the people not voting with Roy are getting sick of having to vote so often.

I hope ILGA says "enough is enough" and forces the changes through now.

Under the revised constitution the "election cycle" is annual so 3 years to replace the whole board.
An initial 7 directors, with 2-2-3 up for re-election each year.

The thing is, unless the incumbents really screwed up (and with postal votes meaning more than 2000 voters each election), it is unlikely any faction would get the message out to sufficient numbers of voters to effectively take control (again).
This is why Max and ILGA are adamant it needs to be a hand-picked first board.

Once the reforms are passed do you have a full understanding how voting will occur in the future?
Postal?
In person?
Proxy?
Via internet?
Cheers and Ta.

The new constitution has a clause that allows for "Ballots" to be used to elect Directors, the method of which can be determined by the Directors. From Max's summary of the changes:

Voting by members on formal resolutions to be by way of ballot rather than by voting at general meetings. Postal, electronic and direct voting methods will be permitted on ballots including Elections.

If you are voting 2 or 3 in per year then it will only take 2 yrs to get control .... 4 out of 7 is in control

Is the opposition to it, ie the Spags side, worried that the first board will put a bunch of changes in place to stop past dickheads getting back in?

The ILGA just need to get their fingers out and do something .... otherwise nothing will ever happen. Maybe the NRL need to give em a nudge

So it seems no-one on either side is ever going to get their proposal passed. How long can an administrator stay for? Could it be possible that we have one for 10+ years?
Max is here until we win a GF, so he’s here forever.

I don't think the NRL have any clout in this situation.

Remember when Souths were dysfunctional on and off the field and then some dudes with money and half a clue put forward a proposal to their members and those members voted in the changes and rusted on old merkins like George Piggins said it would be the end of the club and he would never support them again?

And the all lived happily ever after.

A shame that the ones who want to take over our club don't have half a clue.

"In 1999 he was banned for a year after a magistrate found that he had ''openly exploited the club to his own benefit on an ongoing basis''."
