Dear Members of Parramatta Leagues Club,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of your new Board of Directors. This appointment was the final task of Administrator Max Donnelly prior to his retirement by Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority (ILGA). This means that the Club has now returned to being directed by Members with a reformed constitution. The Directors attended their first meeting on Thursday 5th March 2020 where their appointment was resolved by Max Donnelly. This enabled ILGA to retire Max Donnelly as Administrator.
The new Board of Directors of Parramatta Leagues Club is as follows:
Darren Adam is a chartered accountant who has held several senior leadership roles at Foxtel. Darren commenced his role at Foxtel in 2015 as part of their Finance team and has more recently moved into their Product & Strategy division.
Darren began his career with local chartered accounting firm McLean Charge Partners, before moving to Coopers & Lybrand in 1994. He subsequently held senior taxation and strategy roles at Telstra before joining Optus, where he worked in several executive roles, leading finance and operational teams in some of its largest trading divisions. In these roles, he has been responsible for financial performance, procurement, investment evaluation, pricing as well as governance and risk management, and has led several large transformation initiatives.
Darren has lived in the Hills area for over 30 years, and has been a Member of Parramatta Leagues Club for over 25 years. He is a lifelong Parramatta Eels supporter, along with his wife and 2 teenage children.
Joy Cusack is a non-executive director with more than 20 years’ experience in the not-for-profit area, in particular for social enterprise businesses. She has built a lengthy corporate career across a wide range of industries. Her fields of expertise encompasses governance, brand awareness, mergers and acquisitions, with an emphasis more recently on social impact measurement. Joy and her family have a long standing relationship with the Parramatta area including business and community involvement, as well as residing in the area for more than 45 years.
Richard Foda is the Deputy Chief Risk Officer for the Asia region and the Australasian Chief Risk Officer for Swiss Reinsurance. He is responsible for the governance, risk and prudential compliance of Swiss Reinsurance operations in Australian and New Zealand, as well as the effectiveness of risk frameworks across Swiss Reinsurance operations in Asia. Richard has held senior executive roles for financial services companies in Australia and America for over 25 years.
Richard grew up in Carlingford and has been a Parramatta Eels supporter since the Grand Final replay of 1977. He has been a Leagues Club Member and season ticket holder since 1998. He is father to Alex (13) and Olivia (16), and husband to Tigers fan, Sandy. Richard is passionate about the role that Parramatta Leagues Club plays in the community and cannot wait for the NRL season to start.
Mark Jenkins attended Northmead High School and lived in the Winston Hills area during his schooling years. Much of his policing service was in the Western Suburbs of Sydney, including attachments to Merrylands Police Station, Castle Hill Police Station, Holroyd Police Station, crime squads and Parramatta Police Headquarters. Mark retired from the NSW Police Force (NSWPF) on the 1st August 2020 after 38 years of service. Most of that service has been as a criminal investigator, however his final 10 years have been as a member of the NSWPF Senior Executive Service where he lead significant corporate and operational Commands within the Force. He completed the Company Directors Course and is now a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Mark has always had a passion for the Parramatta Eels. As a child, he accompanied his father (a former Police Officer who led the policing response at the footy grounds) to the old Cumberland Oval to watch the Eels. Mark and his wife have been season ticket holders for thepast 10 years. He is a current Member of the Leagues Club, and has been since 2014.
Phil Sim is a successful technology and media entrepreneur, who is CEO of media intelligence and software firm MediaConnect. He founded MediaConnect in 2000, and has grown the business to employ more than 60 people across 4 international offices. MediaConnect retains its headquarters in Western Sydney, providing media monitoring, analysis and distribution services to more than 500 Australian corporates, government clients and marketing agencies. Prior to founding MediaConnect, Phil was an award-winning journalist and editor, who was twice a NSW finalist in the Young Australian of the Year Awards for Career Achievement. He is a respected leader, innovator and industry commentator across the media, marketing and communications industries. He has extensive experience and knowledge across the technology sector, particularly in relation to online software, social media, data analysis and artificial intelligence.
Since 2003, Phil has also operated the popular 1Eyed Eel supporter website, which is viewed by hundreds of thousands of Parramatta Eels supporters each year. He was also a vocal and influential campaigner for constitutional reform, and better corporate governance within the Leagues Club and Football Club. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Greg Monaghan holds a Bachelor of Economics, Graduate Diploma of Marketing and is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Greg is an experienced executive and company director in not for profit, sports and commercially listed and unlisted industries. He is a Perpetual Member of Parramatta Leagues Club and a long-time supporter of the Parramatta Eels. His all-time favourite footy memory is Brett Kenny’s dummy in the 1981 Grand Final. He was born and bred in the Parramatta area, played league and cricket at Cumberland High School, and 1st Grade Cricket for Parramatta District Cricket Club. He has been President of the Parramatta District Cricket Club for 15 years and is passionate about assisting Parramatta Leagues Club and the Parramatta Eels to a consistently successful future.
Murugan Thangaraj has been a barrister since 1996 and a Senior Counsel since 2010. He primarily works in the area of white collar crime. He appears for corporate entities such as banks, as well as for individuals. For the last 10 years, he has provided legal services to the Parramatta Leagues Club group, staff and players as needed. All of his work for the Parramatta Eels has been undertaken on a pro bono basis. He has been a supporter of the Club for around 40 years and was fortunate to have been present at the Grand Final wins of 1982 and 1986.
