$2 billion is a lot of cash, do we really need to rebuild both stadiums?

Fitz made a good point this morning, we could give 100 towns $10 million to improve their sporting facilities for grass roots level rather rebuilding stadiums that are rarely ever filled!!

The Gov is spending $1B on the Sydney Opera House + Art Gallery renos too. I bet that the merkins who are against the high cost of modern sports stadia are right behind the ballet and art boffins getting the cash.

I am not against doing something but gee $2 billion is a lot of money especially when we are just knocking down two stadiums. Surely $1 billion is enough to do something!!

Gee my local ground has dangerous wooden seating from the 80's and a small club house that has doggy roofing that leaks and thieves pull of to break into the building. And I am sure we are worse.

$50k grant would make massive improvements to our ground!!

I'm all for it.
Let's get some top quality stadiums in this f**king city. Sick of people saying the old ones are good enough.
Yeah, but they could be much, much better.

I get that there are other areas that need money - schools, hospitals, public transportation - but how much money has been allocated to those things over the next 5 years? I bet it's a shitload more than $2b.
Maybe instead of taking money away from the stadiums to put towards those other areas, they could better allocate the money that already goes there so it gets used effectively.

Sorry what is "Concrete Cancer" ?

As an ANZ Stadium member, I can't for the life of me understand the Knock down / Rebuild of ANZ. Sure Bring in the ends of the stadium in so that it works for rectangle sports.

If you build world class stadiums people travel across the world to go. Instead of going against the stadiums if we want more people to turn up to games the NRL needs to stop having all games live on TV, people also need to bite the bullet and just turn up to games.

2 million would be a cheap tender for a council looking to build a new toilet block/dressing sheds at a local park. Council funded buildings are a licence to print money for contractors.

Watching the ABC news tonight and they reported that of the $2bn, $3million is going to the Tahs for compensation for loss of revenue for crowd numbers while they play elsewhere for a couple of seasons

A big chunk of the $2b is buying ANZ out of their lease too IIRC.

Mate there is shit stories coming from everywhere since this announcement was made. All politically motivated
Even if that is true, it's still only .0015% of the total spend. A drop in the ocean.

What I do find appalling however is that the govt needed to grease the wheels of the 3 Eastern teams with compensation for them to relocate elsewhere while Allianz is being rebuilt. It was documented many times previously here and elsewhere that the same 3 teams were against a rebuild if they had to be relocated during the process. Now, they've come on board. Wonder why? This is why the politics involved in this whole process, and the shit that goes on behind the scenes really pisses me off and is why in my opinion, and I only say this as an opinion.... the whole decision has been corrupted.
Ahhhmmmm, ................was there any compensation offered to the Wanderers and Eels for having to relocate for 2/3 seasons, clearly affecting both teams income streams massively, disenfranchising their supporters, and having to rebuild later on, while Parra was being rebuilt?
I f**king bet not.
The big end of town wins again.

f**k off Alan Jones and the SCG Trust.
f**k off Stuart Ayres and your brown tongue. Thanks for being the member for Penrith. Not.
f**k off you elitist Waratahs, Roosters and ESFC.
AND f**k off Peter Fitzsimmons. Stick to doing something you are good at and that is writing great reading about Australia's historical moments and fighting for a republican Australia. Otherwise, STFU.

Stick to your guns Gladys.
