get electric buses ffs

Isn’t a trackless electric tram just a long bendy bus ? Maybe they should just call it “long bendy bus” instead of “Battery-powered trackless trams” ? Would that be ok ?

These trackless trams have been instigated in one Chinese city only as far as I am aware. Maybe two.

Trackless tram in Hunan, China - YouTube

It's not technology that appears to be very favorable elsewhere.
It jumped up as an option a while ago when the NSW Govt were struggling to fund the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2. (Camellia to Olympic Park via Rydalmere and Wentworth Point with a new river crossing at Wentworth Point. Andrew Constance suggested it as a cheaper alternative.
It is still under the investigation stage I believe (and indeed, funding is probably being looked at.)

Tbh, I don't know why it is necessary, when the West Metro is going to be built to provide a trip from Olympic Park to Parramatta anyway. A 4 minute trip on the train at 100 - 110 kmh, as opposed to a 20 - 25 minute trip on a tram tracing roughly the same route. Seems stupid.
The money would be better spent extending the PLR from Carlingford to Epping, hence, linking Parramatta to the NW Metro and also linking it to Macquarie Park, which should have happened 2 decades ago anyway.

Western Sydney Airport earthmovers reach halfway point
March 12 Tele
“We’re running hard to get Western Sydney Airport built and open, so it’s great to reach this important milestone,”
communications and urban infrastructure Minister Paul Fletcher said ahead of visiting the site on Friday.

Western Sydney Airport chief executive Simon Hickey said more than 13 million cubic metres of earth had been moved across
the 1,780 hectare site since work began in March 2020.

“The scrapers, excavators, dump trucks and dozers on this site are some of the biggest in the world, the kind you expect to see on mega mining projects,” he said.

“Hundreds of skilled workers, more than half of them from Western Sydney, are working on site to support the 260 pieces of earthmoving equipment
at work to prepare the site for airport construction.”

“If you watch all the machines working together from above it is like a clock mechanism. It is hugely rewarding.”

Construction of the passenger terminal will begin at the end of the year, with runway and taxiway construction beginning in the middle of next year.

The airport is due to open in 2026 flights with a capacity for 10 million passengers a year.

Sydney's future aerotropolis has been officially named Bradfield in honour of the engineer behind the construction of the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Bradfield will be recognised as Sydney's "third city centre" alongside Sydney CBD and Parramatta.

The aerotropolis will be a new hub supported almost entirely by the Government's multi-billion dollar airport, and including the Western Sydney Airport Line.

A prototype of the exterior cladding to the new Parramatta Civic Centre in Parramatta Square. This building will look pretty flash.
