I've been following the build of this joint since 2018.
An absolutely extraordinary arena.
I'm just in awe at the clarity and how clever the indoor screen is and how amazing the outside looks.
Just stunning and beyond words.
Full gig is up.

Gotta say, put your phone away and enjoy the experience FFS.

Vegas is another planet.

When I was there last year It was incredible to think when going through some casinos that you were actually in one at some of them.

Some areas you felt you were in an underground station then a shopping mall walking through casinos.

You really do feel like you are so far away from reality when your there.
I have never been and have often wondered what is the attraction. I went to Maccau once, saw similar silly casinos with gondolas in indoor Venice malls, Packer's City of Dreams etc etc. To me it was like 20 Westfields with gambling.

What is different about Las Vegas ?

Well its unique as its nothing i have encountered before or after during my travels.

So entering Vegas via bus coming from LA about an hour leading in its just desert around then all of sudden you hit Vegas and its casinos everywhere down the main strip. Flashy buildings lighting up. Water fountains and that.

You walk into a casino there is gambling tables everywhere. The way they light up the inside parts of casinos as you walk through just doesn't feel like reality. You wouldn't know what time of the day it is if you just stayed inside.

You have the tram line that takes you along the strip. Basically casino hopping if you don't walk in the heat.

At the Flamingo you walk past the habitat on the outside but its inside the casino like your at some zoo or aquarium.

Shops pop up everywhere as you walk through casinos as with plenty of bars.

I went to a VIP party which was part of the tour i was on basically was a nightclub involving a pool party with DJ music. I assume its not the only city that has that but fmd that night was out of control didn't get back to the room until 5am and Origin match back here in Australia had just finished so i missed it.

You spend $50 US dollars on high quality vodka/spirits in some places.

Each casino has a different theme about it on the outside and inside.

It may be 3am or 4am but the strip is still buzzing 24/7.

Just up the road from their Campbelltown club and oval... and not too far from their Ashfield club, Leichhardt oval, Concord headquarters, and Lidcombe (RIP).

These nomads should just cut to the chase and start to build one in Perth 😎

This would actually be a good idea for the Tigers. Finally get a proper home ground out South-West which is a growing area.

Not sure what Darcy is on about with saying the Tigers are letting developers take over. It was his council which has given developers the go-ahead to build massive (for the area) towers at the old Wests Leagues Club site in Rozelle.

I’ve said it before, no one in the Balmain/Leichhardt area cares about the Tigers anymore. It’s all a bunch of Swans/Union/EPL fans around here.

A pretty cheesy video but Aland have a pretty reasonable reputation.
They even put doughnuts in their pool. Winner.

I love my team and I love going to our stadium on game day but during the off season things change. I was at Parramatta tonight. There was some festival on and I had to walk through it after dinner with friends who live nearby.

Basically you can shove Parramatta in your arse, it's a modern ghetto. Yuck!!

What area of Sydney do you live in?

Is that down in the Shire?
Yes. That little inlet to the left. From left to right. Dolans Bay, Burraneer Bay, Gunnamatta Bay, Cronulla (Bate Bay).

Parramatta is still a construction site. You’ll need to give the city time to finish its build and find its soul.

City of Sydney went through this with the light rail and it was a ghost town for too long. Even now the city is still a construction site with Sydney Metro. All the same, it is finding its soul and (I think) is a genuine destination again for Sydney people looking for a night out etc.

Parramatta will be like that, but it will take time. The light rail and powerhouse need to open as do other major projects like the new lyric theatre etc. I expect that the new WSIA will bring bigger investment of hotels to Parramatta as people will be using Nancy-Bird 24/7.

It will never have the natural landmarks that coastal cities have or those historic buildings like much older cities boast, so it will need to find its way and it will take time.

I'm actually intrigued to know what the long term strategy is going to be with two airports in Sydney, as both the current owner (the Commonwealth Government) and current lessee of the Kingsford-Smith site has no intention for at least the next 60-70 years of it not being operated as an international airport.

Is the Western Sydney Airport just going to end up being for domestic, low-cost carriers and freight? Why would international carriers fly in and out of there when they can continue to fly into Kingsford-Smith?? Avalon is closer to the Melbourne CBD than this new airport is to the Sydney CBD, but it has never taken off (pun not intended) in what is essentially a similar size city.

I think as well as domestic, there will be a split of flights to some popular international destinations where there is currently more than one daily flight ex-Sydney. For example Qantas currently run 5 flights a day (most days) to Auckland - perhaps 2 of these would shift to Nancy-Bird from Mascot.

Agree, frequents travellers will know that many cities that build new airports tend to have one major airport and use the old one for freight or “low cost” airlines. Or just shut the old one down.

Like MJC said, it seems it will be split like JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark Liberty.

It will be interesting. With the exception of Tokyo and London (both significantly bigger populations than Sydney), I can't think of any other city in the World that runs more than one international airport for full service airlines (some have separate airports for low-cost airlines). Even in New York, JFK is for international and La Guardia is just domestic (I'll classify Canada as domestic in that market). Newark isn't far away I guess, but you're talking about a population of close to 20 million in that area. I think Fort Lauderdale might technically have some international flights with Miami only 1 hour away, but they'd be pretty regional (Mexico, Caribbean).

When Bangkok opened up Suvanabhumi, they kept the original airport going, but it is only used by low cost carriers like Air Asia (in a similar way that they flew into Avalon) these days.

Sure in 20 years things might change.

I'd imagine eventually (and yes, this would be decades) the unspoken plan would be for the Western Sydney Airport to take the bulk of the international flights, and for Mascot to be more domestic (and/or in 50 years shut down and sold off to developers)?

However the consortium of investment funds that own Sydney Airport (among stakes in other airports, apparently) is not going to let go of it's current cash machine to competition easily.
