Parramatta Stadium Rebuild and other stuff

It's a good thing. Automation means Labour costs are less. The less Labour costs the more chance manufacturers companies may return or stay around.
I find it bizarre people talk about people losing jobs. Technology has given millions of jobs. They forget about the people it gives jobs. Like myself, engineers, etc.
Yep, people just have to retrain or evolve. There's plenty of new jobs when new fields emerge.

Kind of similar to clean energy versus fossil fuels. Plenty of new jobs (and money to be made by companies), and can't see why Gina, Clive and Dutton are so against it.

Buying time for them to evolve their profit machines perhaps? Similar to the RBTU buying time with the deal they sought for their drivers, the younger of whom will eventually have to retrain and find new jobs.

I'd be lining all those huge warehouses with Solar. Whilst houses are good also the surface area these warehouses have is like 100 x homes.
It doesn't have to be solar or nothing. If we used solar for 50% and coal for 50% then that's a start.

I won't get into electric cars because I think if we want to free up roads and pollution there are other ways to do it.

Maybe start sending the immigrants to another state or city because Sydney's full.
Build up Newcastle and start the bullet train. Then do the same down Canberra way.

Just look at the new WSA. Pretty much all roofing structures are covered with solar panels, including the walkways.
I think you'll find many new buildings will head down this path.
It's a no brainer.

That's good. But I don't see many of the new ones being decked out like this. A few places I work install enough to cover their costs but would be less then 5% of roof top.

I'm surprised solar roof panels haven't taken off. Seems an absolute no-brainer for warehouse or factory roofs. It's just a good investment - maybe companies are waiting for a government handout to do it?

That's a shame.
Maybe we need to make it cheaper or have govt's subsidise the costs.

most of the jobs I work on only install the amount of panels that their grants cover

there is still a lot of grant money out there for solar PV

The replies aren't emotional, they are factual.
In this case, the RTBU have gone too far and have lost the support (if they ever had any) of pretty much everyone.
They know they are on a hiding to nothing. Hence their last minute attempt this afternoon to strike a deal. (see below) They are now clearly worried about Minns taking this issue to the FWC,
A train driver is currently on nearly $130k, and a guard nearly $115k. That's a decent income, even before considering the Government's offer. It's not as if they haven't had wage rises since 2010.
Their actions are truly indefensible.

The below actually puts it into perspective. Yes, it's greed.

It’s not for you and I to pass judgment on what we think is a reasonable salary for someone who works a wide range of shifts over the week / fortnight that might or might not include public holidays etc.

The point about wage claims is what they where earning a decade ago as a base and what they are earning in real terms now.

BTW the $130k quote above by Nine newspapers was quite cheeky, as it was stated as “after penalties and overtime”. Shit like that doesn’t help. Of course I am not surprised.

Clean energy v fossil fuels is not an accurate way to characterise the issue. Clean energy needs fossil fuels.
