Gronk asks a good question actually.
Generally, the construction phase WOULD include the excavation.
IBBAG is also correct in saying the pool closes in April, and the demolition of that wouldn't take long - a couple of months maybe.
I know that final local authority approval for construction has not been granted yet, but would be a formality and it should be approved within the next 4 or so months.
I'd be surprised if construction doesn't actually start this year tbh.

Planning update

Planning approval has been granted for stage one of the new stadium which includes the concept design for the new stadium and demolition of the existing Pirtek Stadium. The determination and conditions of approval can be viewed here.

Lendlease has been awarded to the contract to design and construct the new stadium. Demolition of the old stadium and Parramatta War Memorial Pool is expected to start in March 2017. We will keep the community updated on the start of work.http://www.infrastructure.nsw.gov.au/projects-nsw/western-sydney-stadium.aspx

Lendlease will be responsible for submitting a planning application for stage two, which includes detailed design of the stadium and surrounds as well as construction and operation of the new stadium.

The community and stakeholders will again be invited to give feedback to stage two planning application during the public exhibition which is anticipated to be mid-2017.

Construction of the new Stadium will commence following demolition and receipt of stage two planning approval.

TBH I think our fans need to get more of a clue how to cross the road - there are merkins going in all directions ...

Depressing on two fronts, seeing the ground like that and the video is in the A-League section..f**k the Wanderers.

Like it or not, if it wasn't for the Wanderers and the fact the ground now gets used for 12 months of the year, the place probably wouldn't be getting the upgrade.
Look at the money Brookvale struggles to get for 12 matches a year. The investment just isn't worth it.

Thanks for posting Suit. That is amazing. (And amazingly sad)

Yeh, it was a really well put together piece.
Tbh, I'm not really that sad. More excited than anything.
Stadium development has improved so much since this was built. It was past its time.
I'm just planning on keeping the great memories. And there are so many great memories at the old Pirtek that will never be forgotten. Ever! I still have such wonderful and quite emotional memories of Cumberland. The same goes for Pirtek. I've had some of the most amazing experiences at Pirtek in my life, both with the Eels and more recently, the Wanderers.
I was glad when Cumberland Oval was redeveloped, and also excited about something new coming. That first game vs St George was just an amazing experience.
I feel the same way now. I'm hoping the first game against whoever it will be will also be just as exciting.
I've no doubt it will be, because this new stadium will be better than anything we've experienced in the past in this country.

Personally, I'll remember all the great memories at the place as having happened at Parra Stadium (rather than at Pirtek). That corporate name was only in place for a tiny smidgeon of the ground's 30 year history.
