As someone that has worked in computing and IT for a very long time, I can tell you this you can smell when things are running hot.

I used to race slot cars in my youth you could always smell if you were going to lunch an engine before it went

I imagine this the smell is from the motors. In general it's a bad sign if it smells like burning

yep, the cable is running hot so the insulation on the cable is overheating or the lacquer on the motor windings, in any case as you say, it's not a good thing

Jumped on the tram from Parramatta station to North Parramatta today.

Nice ride, not too crowded even at peak hour.

However, there was a very electric smell to it, I guess it’s just the engines still running in?
IF they run DC and IF the motors have brushes then you are likely smelling ozone.

An interesting insight into the effects of Metro on the Sydney rail network.
From Sharath.
Got to laugh at his short interview with Jo though.
3 years ago, she and her boss were threatening to cancel the Bankstown extension and the Western Sydney Metro at the behest of their beloved unions.
Now, she and Chris hate the RTBU and are gushing over the Metro because they know it is a far superior transport system to what we have and also that it's a vote winner. Long may their support now continue.

Strange take... and pretty lazy conjecture given Chris Minns used his maiden speech upon election to parliament in 2015 to bag out the unions, and could never be said to hold unions as beloved.

TCT have released an interview with Eels Leagues Club CEO Greg Monaghan and they chat about Eels Live.

They hope to start building the new licensed club next to the carpark in 26 and open doors in 28. They will then knock down the old digs on O’Connell St.

I assume that’s where the hotel will go. It will be 150 rooms.

The open air big screen bar area for sports and concerts is SUBJECT to the acquisition of land (freehold or leashold dunno) from the government or trust same same.

So the whole thing won’t be fully completed for yonks. 2032 say my crystal balls. It’s very exciting.

Can't see how it will be a major tourist pull myself...

I can't think of one overseas city where my top ten itinerary choices would have included a fish market? So hope they haven't over-factored tourist spend into their financial modelling

plenty of cities list some type of market as a top tourist draw - though they tend to be as lame as the Sydney Fish Market
