When I worked on the Anzac bridge for 2yrs I'd walk to the fish market for lunch occasionally.

I'm building retaining walls at a house atm. I made it clear in my quote that if we strike rock while digging the pier holes for the posts, it will be a variation to core drill the holes for the supporting posts.
Well, out of the 12 holes that we have hand dug, there were 5 where we hit rock and have to core drill to get them to a depth that I am happy with to support the posts and to do the job to structural expectations. I don't want to be returning to the job to fix a failed wall.
This stuff happens all the time.
I'd be held accountable if I didn't build the wall properly.
Hence, the extra cost to my client unfortunately. It happens.
The same shit happens on a much larger scale in larger infrastructure projects. That's why costs blow out.

Its public works, they always come in late and over budget. Being late allows them to claim extensions of time, hence more overheads and on costs and it all gets approved. There are people such as engineers and project managers that cant get a job in private enterprise so they work for Public Works and they are not too flash.

That's a financial disaster waiting to happen.

They have had 3 and half years and still no decision has been made.

How many feasibility studies, reviews and designs have been done up which have cost millions already to get duck egg

you only have to watch Grand Designs to see how many smaller scale projects end up on time and on budget

The shitty one they have now has busloads of tourists drop them off there every single day. Usually Asian tourists.

It's ok mate. It certainly won't be a white elephant.
The new Fish Market will absolutely be a Sydney Icon, despite what some think on here.
Not only for the new and improved spaces, but also the actual architecture of the building and the restaurants that will be there.
The current place is not very pleasant and is old. The new place will be amazing.

I believe the old site will be replaced with over 1000 apartments combined with commercial businesses, similar to what's currently being developed at Darling Harbour.
