Parramatta Stadium Rebuild and other stuff

The same thing happened to the once shiny underground stations/platforms build for the eastern suburbs line. When it first opened they looked futuristic, and after years of general wear and tear and daily grime, those platforms at Redfern, Central, Town Hall, Martin Place etc now just look decidedly less modern and polished.

Is it me or are these people never happy with any public transport?

For the record, the Herald has turned into a click-bait media outlet due to their falling income stream.
They were anti infrastructure for years and never posted a positive story, until - the Metro opened and it was a raging success. They then jumped on board for 6 months or so yet have now gone back to their click-bait stories.
It's a pathetic rag these days.
That story you posted above reeked of nothing other than an in-fill story.

I was once interviewed by a Herald journalist after a Socceroo's World Cup match at Darling Harbour. When we played France in Qatar. I answered his questions honestly however I criticised the Berejiklian govt for not setting up the Live Site sooner during that World Cup. He took all that on board and actually reported it in the article that was posted on-line. That was fine.
I also then went on to say to him that I was disappointed with the Herald's approach those days reporting stories and in particular, the infrastructure being built, and how they have to always write negative stories. It was at this stage he turned his phone recorder off and listened to what I had to say. He actually agreed with me but said that was their job - to create stories. The poor bloke was actually apologetic for the way the Herald had turned.

The story above is another perfect example.

So only 18-30 "affordable" apartments out of the 600 in that block... a huge help with the housing crisis. And will take a while to build/come "to market", if it's not even at the DA stage.

that would have been a nightmare for the structural engineer, its like a 2 dimensional building, no depth at all

Indeed. 215 mtrs is pretty tall for such a narrow building as this.

The one that astounds me more is 432 Park Ave New York. About 30 metre x 30 metre footprint, yet 425 mtrs tall.
Buggered if I'd ever live in this.

Coffs bypass progress.

Within 3 years, with the new Hunter River crossing as well, there will be motorway access from the Sunshine Coast to Geelong without one set of traffic lights.
If only we could get High Speed Rail built.

Official cause yet to be determined, but I hope this isn't another case of the Grenfell type of incident, this time in one of Dubai's towers... Luckily no-one injured, but sheesh - wouldn't catch me living in one of these tall residential towers, housing criss or no housing crisis!

Skyscraper with 4000 residents bursts into flames

Horrifying footage has captured the moment an inferno ripped through a 67-storey skyscraper as debris fell from the sky.

A massive fire has ripped through a 67-storey residential tower in Dubai’s affluent Marina district, forcing thousands of residents to flee during the night.
The blaze broke out at the Marina Pinnacle building at around 9.30pm on Friday (local time), with flames and debris seen pouring from the upper floors.

Emergency crews from Dubai Civil Defence reportedly battled the inferno for six hours before finally bringing it under control in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Miraculously, all 3,820 residents from the building’s 764 apartments were safely evacuated, and no injuries have been reported.

In a statement to social media, the Dubai Media Office confirmed ambulance and medical teams were on-site throughout the night, providing both physical and psychological support to evacuees.

“Full medical and mental support has been made available,” authorities said.

Displaced residents have been offered temporary accommodation in hotels through a coordinated effort between authorities and the building’s developer. However, with no word yet on when they’ll be able to return, many have been left in limbo.

One resident, Indian expat Prateek M, described the terrifying moments he and his young family escaped the flames.

“Neighbours from the next building shouter and told me our tower was on fire,” he told Khaleej Times.

“I grabbed my son and told my wife to head straight to the emergency exit.”

The family were forced to evacuate the smoke-filled stairwells by touch.

“We had to hold on to the shoulders of the person in front of us,” he said.

“Once we reached the parking levels, where it’s more ventilated, we could breathe a little better.”

The family is now staying in a hotel while they await access to their home.

“We’re safe and that’s what matters. But we hope to return soon,” he said.

Footage shared online shows the fire appearing to start on the upper floors of the building; however, the official cause has yet to be confirmed.

The incident follows a kitchen blaze on the 47th floor at Marina Pinnacle in 2015, according to NDTV.

Dubai’s transport authority temporarily suspended metro services between Dubai Marina Station and Palm Jumeirah Station to allow firefighters access to the site.

A replacement bus service was also quickly rolled out.

Investigations into the fire are underway, and residents now face a difficult wait to assess the damage – and get their lives back on track.
