The Light rail stop at Wynyard is in the perfect location.

A gentle 2-3 min walk down the hill from the bus stops & the train station.

Within 10 mins of the getting in the city @ Wynyard bus stop you can already be in Chinatown closing into Central/Haymarket on the light rail.

Depending where you want to get off.

Another block away would have been further away from the other transport.

There are 4 stops on the light rail between Circular Quay and Haymarket. Bridge St (outside the Establishment), Wynyard (outside the rail station exit and supporting Martin Place and the Barrangaroo underground walkway), QVB and Town Hall station. Each of these are located in great locations for easy access to most parts of the CBD (east or west) within pretty much a 10 minute walk.

I think the point was that it would be considered highly unusual for a stop not to be right at Circular Quay, Wynyard, Town Hall and Central Stations or any heavy railway station for that matter. The fact that a fat cat donor got it moved to out the front of his business, should be a discussion point.

So, what was the compelling reason why it was moved south ?

This quote is straight from Utopia.

“Transport considered a variety of locations for the Wynyard Light Rail stop and its design went through a number of iterations throughout the planning process,” the spokesperson said.
“Factors taken into consideration included pedestrian safety, crowding, traffic, road interfaces, platform size, positioning in relation to train stations and other key infrastructure, drainage, accessibility and distance to locations and services.”

You mean the fact that a fat cat donor got an ADDITIONAL stop outside his business. On George St there are stops outside each of the heavy rail stations, as well QVB, Bridge St (near The Establishment) and Chinatown (less than a block away from Word Square, Chinatown and a link the L1 Central <-> Dulwich Hill line).

City stops on the L2/L3 line:
Surry Hills Light Rail
Central Chalmers Street Light Rail
Haymarket Light Rail
Chinatown Light Rail
Town Hall Light Rail
QVB Light Rail
Wynyard Light Rail
Bridge Street Light Rail
Circular Quay Light Rail

I have caught the light rail hundreds of times now so I know each stop.

I cant argue with the line they have created.

Great access to Central, Town Hall, SCG/Allianz, Randwick Racecourse, Circular Quay, Chinatown, Surry Hills.

Its been a game changer getting around City.

Minns announced this today, but was probably the worst kep secret.

So they will recommission the ghost station at a relatively low cost. That in turn will trigger the Housing SEP (high density 400m around heavy rail stations). They have also added Edgecliff Station to the 37 stations that were in the original announcement.

So what I don’t get is how this solves the housing crisis, other than adding beds, which of course it does. My confusion about the announcement is AFFORDABILITY.

I will use a building going up at the moment on the edge of the 400m radius.

Two bedroom apartments are $2.5m and three bedders are $3.75m.

Anyways, I am indifferent to this proposal as a local. It doesn’t impact me whatsoever, and if anything, I should celebrate a high density apartment bomb hitting a neighbouring hamlet. Instead, I just find the decision perplexing.

He's running out of ideas, that's why.
And his refusal to construct any more rail infrastructure is the reason for this.
Public transport infrastructure building is what creates opportunities, yet he has absolutely no plan to do so.
He was offered an opportunity for Parramatta Rd light rail, built and paid for by a private consortium, yet immediately knocked it on the head. WHY?

Public transport infrastructure building is what creates opportunities, yet he has absolutely no plan to do so.
He's sensibly managing the finances of the state. Don't forget the NSW state budget money has to pay for essential and imrpoved health and educations services - it's not just a venture capital fund for transport infrastructure at all costs.
He was offered an opportunity for Parramatta Rd light rail, built and paid for by a private consortium, yet immediately knocked it on the head. WHY?
Perhaps because the idea doesn't stack up, upon deeper scrutiny?

That is completely correct. It was for flood mitigation, and flood mitigation only.
Makes sense. There have been similar discussions about Wivenhoe after a significant flood event in Brisbane in 2011 where failure to manage dam levels was a contributing factor.

Quite possibly.
I'd prefer to keep all "other stuff" as the title of this thread suggests in the Parra stadium thread and in the same place, but considering this is an Eels specific development, I think you are right.
Agree about keeping everything not related to the new PLC in this thread but a new PLC is pretty exciting and is going to have lots of posts, images, comments, and what not. I just think having its own thread can easily keep everyone who is interested in this up-to-date.
