In all honesty, we have give credit to them for being able to build a bridge to last so long, especially when they had no concept of the type of transport it was going to service. We've all driven across it at some time in out lives.

I thought they were toying with the idea of a tunnel/by-pass of Mt Victoria a few ago?

They were.
The previous Coalition govt had allocated over $2 Billion dollars for an 11 km tunnel from Mt Victoria to Little Hartley to solve this issue.
Chris Minns actually went to the last election promising to cancel this and he fulfilled his promise, cancelling the project as soon as he came to govt. And here we are now.

In saying this, this part of the GWH has been an issue for many decades, so it was across many different political regimes where this issue has not been fixed.
However, there WAS a solution forthcoming. Until it was cancelled by Labor.
Tunnel boring machines currently in use for Sydney metro were going to be further used for these tunnels which would have been the smart thing to do.
But no, they'll now be chucked into landfill, and the GWH at Victoria Pass will remain a problem for the foreseeable future.
I can't see any positives coming from work happening there today, nor can I see any solution soon. This won't now be an easy fix.
And, for the Bells Line of Rd and/or the Darling Causeway to be the major crossing of the Blue Mountains as an alternative to get goods, fuel and supplies to the Central West is an absolute joke.
Chris, just allocate funds and build the f**king tunnel ffs. Even ask your mate Albo for some federal funds. This road is 180 years old ffs.

That bend at the top of the hill leading into Lithgow must be fun to drive through as well as Main St Lithgow.

Since the tunnel idea was not ever fully or even actually funded by the Liberals election promise, maybe we can have a new lottery - like the Opera House Lottery - to fund a solution?

You:mean like the $300 million that was budgeted for the Rouse Hill Hospital that Minns and Mookey immediately removed from any future expenditure until it became a massive issue.

Both sides are to blame for neglect, but the manner in which future infrastructure was bascially cancelled is an issue for the Minns govt. Anyway, they can at least hire more highly paid public servants who contribute little to anything, that’s is a big problem as much as the LNP neglect previously of some road building.

Sydney Trains really is a punish. Yes I get it’s a freight train that caused this and not Sydney Trains per se but that was several hours ago and the line is still gone to sh*t. This is not what a “more resilient” network looks like to me tbh.
Yet, I caught the metro twice today. Reliable, punctual, fast and very busy.
Amazing how much better a modern-day rail system can be.

9 months closure originally promised.
We are now into the 18th month and still nowhere near opening. What a go slow f**k up this has been.

The east and west Hunter st metro OSD towers look stunning.
If there has been an even more positive to metro than just the brilliant rail service, it has been some of the stunning OSD construction.

For all the good the metro line does, it sure has been out of service a lot since it opened. Why are they so unreliable? Is it poor equipment, poor design or both?

I'm hearing through a contact that the Metro will be closed every weekend for 14 weeks! They have to replace the rails along the entire line and almost certainly the wheels on every train. Not sure why this being kept quiet.
Well that sounds like a PR disaster hence why no one in government wants it to get out with the current climate of
fuel prices out of control atm.

Its cheaper and more affordable catching the metro and public transport.

If the Metro is out for 3 months on top of this Fuel crisis we have atm.

There is going to be uproar.

People are certainly going to limit there driving where possible to conserve fuel.
