NRL opponents Reagan Campbell-Gillard and Paul Vaughan were involved in the dramatic rescue of a mother and son who got into trouble in surf over the weekend.

In a message posted to the Shellharbour Surf Lifesaving Club’s Facebook page, Peter Gavin thanked the one-time NSW Blues Origin teammates “for assisting our patrol to rescue a mother and son who got into trouble in the rip to the north of the flags”.

The two rugby league props were first to reach the mother and son and then they were assisted by members of the lifesaving club.

St George Illawarra confirmed to foxsports.com.au the incident happened but Vaughan chose not to speak about it publicly.

The pair are mates off the field but adversaries on it, with Vaughan leading the Dragons pack and Campbell-Gillard last year becoming one of Parramatta’s best and most important players.

The Eels and Dragons squared off in a trial on Thursday but neither Vaughan or Campbell-Gillard featured on the field.

NRL will probably stand him down for 12 months for this.....

Well done Paul and RCG.

Covid Latte is forgiven for Paul and RCG being an enemy forward merkin is forgiven too.

If that was my missus and kid (daughter and grandy these days) I’d be so f**king grateful.

Also, great to hear some positive off field stuff about our boys.

Good point Old Timer.
We should sack him for his attitude on the paddock.
His inconsistent form he has shown over the years with us doesn't deserve his pay packet.
I went to the Cronulla game earlier this year and Vauhan actually got run over the top by Sharon Woods. That was the final straw for me with this bloke. He is supposedly is our leading forward on the park but he doesnt have the right attitude/ mongrel.

Anyone would think Vaughan kidnapped everyone

He is the 1 bloke that was actually in the right place
He was the host, in other words the ring leader and organiser of the bbq/party.
Basically the main person that thought stuff everyone else and all the rules, im inviting everyone over. I think he deserves whatever punnishment he gets.
These guys are on big money and they can't follow the rules so they can all cop whatever they get on the chin.
It also could stuff our season if it wasn't stuffed already by the way that most of them play week in/week out.
Most have had a gut full of their crap.

As I said unless he kidnapped them or held a gun to their heads then the decision is one of shared responsibility and all should be punished equally

Have you considered whether our captains in Messrs Hunt and Mc Cullough new it was taking place and if they did know what punishment they should face?

Obviously if they didn’t know then it truly was a “Mum’s the word” party and all attendees equally guilty.

I guess Hunt, McCullough and Sims for that matter could plead ignorance.....Origin would have been firmly on their minds I dare say.....and if mum was the word amongst the players as Ive stated ad nauseam how bloody arrogant, stupid and mindless to even contemplate getting involved in such a nonsense.......Ive read some rubbish that have criticised Hook .....seriously !!!! whats he supposed to do drive each of them home after a match and tuck them into bed.....I know what he does need to do ....a good kick up the arse comes to mind for starters

Vaughan shouldn't have to worry about his job security. Come Monday morning he should be unemployed
Stay calm.. back to the forest
Vaughan and his Mrs are joining you
They have always wanted to experience the “retreat”
Owen tells me you are on your last chance as you are becoming too emotional lately

Mr and Mrs Vaughan can't come to the "retreat". Owen wouldn't have them
