Fatty Vautin axed by Footy Show


FOOTY Show anchor Paul "Fatty" Vautin is expected to be dumped by the Nine network within days.
While rumour today swirled that Vautin had already been axed, he is to meet with channel Nine boss Jeff Browne next week for crisis talks.

The official line is that he is set to discuss his contract ,which expires at the end of the year - however senior sources close to the show said Vautin “is as good as gone”, with his sacking a “forgone conclusion.”

The future of Paul “The Chief” Harragon is also uncertain - however proven star Matt Johns will stay on.
The season finale to be broadcast from the Sydney Entertainment Centre next Thursday will be Fatty’s last for the network.

The former Manly star hinted his future was under a cloud twice during last night’s show, joking with Matt Johns’ alter ego Reg Regan that he should be talking to Channel Seven about a job and later commenting about next year’s show: “…that’s if I’m still here.”

Vautin has been “a sizeable cost” to the network despite taking a pay cut during widespread cost-cutting by the network last year.

He reportedly shaved off as much as $100,000 a year to around $500,000 to hold on to the hosting job.

It would be sad to see Fatty get the chop. They got rid of Sterlo, just doing commentary now, and now the Fatman. It might be okay if he basically swaps roles with Laurie Daley at FoxSports who is now coming to Ch 9.

I'd still like to see him in a TV role, he is the funniest one of the panel. He could certainly liven up NRL on Fox.

In saying that, this is a Daily Telegraph report so it is highly possible it is just a load of crap from the DT "sources". We all know their reporting on rugby league related topics is....ahem, questionable.

up until about 5-6 years ago, footy show was a cant miss programme. fatty was on it then and it was awesome. since then the ratings have gone down and the show has gone to sh*t yet they call matt johns a proven star when he has steered the sinking ship.

Mark Geyer is the one that needs to be punted. Seriously, replacing intelligent, analytical NRL conversation offered by Sterlo with the ramblings of MG is crazy. What type of people does MG appeal to?

I don't think that Vautin is the problem with the show. The problem is the format. Who wants to watch ex footballers acting like idiots? It's okay to have a bit of humour but at the end of the day the show should be about Rugby League not comedy.

actually that is resonable idea, get some real knowleable people of the game disect and preview the league,
could you imagine a show with
Graham Hughes, Roy Masters, Ray hadley, Phil Gould etc, there would be fireworks every week
