Benji should be seriously considered for fullback.

Plenty of space, still able to set up plays etc and nowhere near the amount of defensive work

Tigers try to pin down Payten after refusing release
September 18, 2008

WESTS TIGERS have refused a request from prop Todd Payten to join new Super League club Celtic Crusaders - and he will now start talks with his manager to extend his deal with the club.

Payten had been the subject of a lucrative three-year offer from the Crusaders, prompting the 29-year-old's manager, Martin Tauber, to request a release from the final year of his deal with the Tigers.

Payten had been concerned that had he remained at the Tigers for his final season, he would not have been able to command such a lucrative contract at the end of next season.

But Tigers coach Tim Sheens told Tauber this week that he hoped to see Payten in a Tigers jumper beyond next season.

"We're delighted that they think so highly of him," Tauber said yesterday. "He's very much a leader and he's well-respected. He has such an influence on the field."

With talks with Tauber about a new contract due to begin as early as next week, the Tigers are believed to be even considering re-signing Payten until 2011 - when his deal with the Crusaders would have ended.

Benji's case is a bit different to most if you can all cast your memories back to early 2008...Benji's contract was due to expire at the end of 2008 and WT tried to sign him to an extended deal but Benji's management didn't want one because without having played much footy recently thought Benji may have lost some market value and wanted to give him a chance to re-find some form.
WT then offered him a one year deal so that he had the season without any contract negotiations hanging over his head so that he had every opportunity to find his form, we all know how that ended up.

Harrison is fine, hasn't risen to the heights expected but I reckon there are more casues to that than Harrison himself. I think a change of clubs can only benefit him in reaching potential. Everyone gets stale being at the same place years on end.

Galea- passenger, has not made the most of the continaul opprtunities and faith Sheens showed in him. Injured this year so will never know if he could throw off the useless tag. I'd throw him in with Harrison as a 2 for 1 deal. In fact I'd make it 3 for 1 take Payne too- he is very good a benefit work, just terrible on the field.

Harrison has been a big disappointment this season. He has been around the club long enough and really has not stepped up. I would not be too concerned if we flicked off to another club.

As for Galea, I actually thought he was starting to come good before he got injured (even though he was being made to play in the front row). He is also one of the better defenders in the squad, and we need those sort of people in the team.

You are kidding,Galea got no opportunities for the first year here,he was looking good and got injured,he is a keeper, take Bronsin though, lazy, inconsistent, not impressed at all with him.

Harrison had potential but him being played out of position and bulking up lost his versatility and practically killed him. Galea looked good, though isn't he a weird choice for a prop since he played for Penrith in the centers...

I wouldn't mind that 3 for 1 trade if we got Campese and then put him at half or at 5/8 with Lewis at half and Benji at Fullback.

That just about sums it up.

If another club signs Bronson, gets him down to a more reasonable playing weight and uses him only as a widerunning backrower he may surprise a lot of people (he may not too, He's been played out of position for a long time but he's still young).

I hope he does go elsewhere because with the lack of front row depth at the tigers it seems certain he would be doomed to continue as a pretty awful prop.

He's in a similar mould to Nigel Plum, both are very good back rowers, yet Sheens and Simmons in all their wisdom tried to turn them into props.

I know the Raiders were pretty woeful against the Sharks last week, but it was good to see Plum being used as a ballplaying back rower, he looked dangerous.

I can't believe he isn't getting more game time with the Raiders.

Harrison needs to shed some kilo's, and moved to lock imo for anyone to see just how damn good he really can be.

Harrison is easily a better player than Payne, Galea, Trimarchi and even other like tandy, metsuila.

Galea isnt a terrible player but he only looks good like the other because they havent played any games.

Harrison will be in NZ trial game playing for NZ maoris against All Golds with like of Rangi Chase, Whatuira.

With Harrison going it all bust seals the deal with Benji leaving next year.

I don't want another case of Te'o. If the bloke wants to go and we say no, who says he isn't going to play half-hearted. I know he isn't that type of bloke but it could happen and thats a situation no-one wants. If he really wants to go we may as well let him and use his money to buy a real good prop next year.

Wasn't it Payten who asked for a release to join the Titans in 2005, just after Prince & Laffranchi had signed with them? If so, your story is not checking out...
