A Direction pad,4 buttons(ps style) and 2 triggers (R1,L1)

Is it good enough for Rugby League?

It will suffice, but I would reccomend 8 buttons, instead of 6.

Whatever - you can change the controls to anything you want

Fend & Sidestep would seem to be the least used controls I guess, it would make sense to drop them if you have to. I'd recommend getting a better controller tho mate so you don't have to!
