Pearce and Maloney both played well. Pearce took more of a supporting role.

If anything, last nights game highlighted that come crunch time, Manly and Melbourne will be right in there.

Gee the Rooster look fit though. Their defensive line formation is fantastic and all their big boys look lean and fit.

Pearce got carried like a undergeared scrub in a raid. (only certain people will get that)

Roosters are a top team this year and made good buys, but pearce will never be a big game player. He fails time and time again on the big stage, grand final & origin, where it really matters.

It's impossible to please everyone.

Pearce did well. Along with Maloney, they controlled the game.

Hold all comments about his big game capabilities until October.

Pretty shit clockwork since he hasn't featured in a finals match in 3 years... and he won 3/4...

Those 3/4 wins had absolutely nothing to do with Pearce and everything to do with Carney. No surprise when Carney went off the rails the following season the Roosters plummeted down the ladder, he was the reason why the Roosters made the grand final that year and the factor behind Cronulla's resurgence in recent times.

2011 will repeat itself if SBW leaves your club next year. The Roosters have crumbled every time they turn to Pearce as the main man, and the same applies at Origin level.

Pearce has only ever rode on the coattails of better players. He's like the priveliged private school student with average intelligence who is made to look smarter than he is because daddy can afford all the best tutors and his teachers fawn over him because he "tries hard". But then when he enters the workforce (aka the big stage) he can't cope anymore because daddy isn't there to shelter him.

Maloney is still the same. He does everything well except his actual job. Last night was no different, I can count 4 or 5 attempted attacking kicks that were absolutely terrible, and I can remember him doing very little to constructively assist his outside men.

However, if you need a bloke to swoop on a loose ball and run 80 metres, or run a hole for a line break, or beat 3 or 4 defenders and score, he's the guy. In any given game that might make up for his shortcomings or it might not. He never "controls a game" though.

Nevertheless his sheer will to put himself about and try to help his team could, possibly, help his team all the way to a premiership. It could equally see him totally ineffective on the big occasion.

Yeah nah. We will judge him on his past grand final and origin appearances, thanks.

Pearce put Maloney over for 2 tries (lol@gut's stats) . Aside from that, Maloney was better yes, my Motm

Not "my" stats, nrlstats's stats. You'd better call them and tell them to adjust Pearce's stats to fit your rose coloured view of him.

I have never seen Mitchell standout in a big game. Looks good vs Eels, Tigers...but avg in the big games, even when his team wins

NrlStats also only lists one actual try assist across the whole Roosters team. I don't know who compiles these stats but anyone who doesn't think both Pearce and Friend need to be attributed one try assist each for the Chooks first two tries has a seriously warped view on the game.

Pearce played great last night. Put Maloney through for he first try so no idea how that's now a try assist, but mostly it was his kicking game that stood out for me.

Regularly turned Inglis around and found space, rarely conceded 20m restarts, and brought down his bombs right on the try line. Compare that to Reynolds who kicked em down Mini's throat all night, and butchered all his attacking kicks with none really looking dangerous except one that mini missed.

I mean its not like he had the perfect half game - you know, doing f**k all all game, then kicking a drop out over the touch line and thus being hailed a dominant hero - but he did alright

Staggering how he doesn't get a TA and LBA for Maloney's 1st try.

That's an out and out error.

What constitutes a try assist? Is it merely whoever threw the last pass or kick? I wouldn't have thought so or else there'd be lots of centres with large TA tallies.

He kicked the ball five (5) times apparently...

What I though was unfair is that Souths only let Reynolds play for five minutes in each half.
