Penalty Blitz

Apparently modern day humans can not play rugby league for 80 mins though Surely. We can't get rid of the interchange!!!!!!! No, no, no. We must have giant 'athletes' sitting on the bench ready to 'make an impact' for 10 mins and be paid a motza for it.

I mean why would we want to see halves and hookers be creative with running and passing when we can have a defensive line stand offside all game and when they get tired replace them with a fresh player to keep the line in shmick shape for the entire 80 mins?

Great to watch. While we're at it, let's bend the ball carrier into a pretzel as he lays on the ground with three gargantuans on him and make sure he can't play the ball till we've had a rest. Then we'll stand in front of the ref, take off before the dummy half gets his hands on the ball and smash the next ball carrier as he catches the pass!

That's the stuff that is really ruining the sport. Not penalties. Reduce the interchange to 6 at least. Bring back the stamina and fatigue factor.

This is why rules shouldn’t be f**ked with, there is a reason it used to be 5m not 10.

But noooo lets bring in unlimited interchange and change it to 10m to open up the game, f**king lol.

Go back to 5 no interchanges just reserves and police the f**king rules.

While we are at it bring back proper scrums so arse clowns who aren’t a hookers arse can’t be proclaimed the best the game has ever seen.

The 5m rule broke when refs stopped pinging the attacking side for being inside the 5 ... Back in the day both the attack and defence had to get back the 5 ... This meant teams were 10m apart but when the refs stopped policing one rule they decided to change the fabric of the game to counter it.

Right now with 2 refs we could actually police a 5 for both sides.

For all the posts about the penalties this one remains a ‘keyboard from his parents basement’ nugget of nothingness.

Need to cut Isaiah a break maybe .... cryptic comment possibly????

Please come back Isaiah and let us all in on the mysterious meaning of your post!

Provided the play the ball with foot is maintained I'm not so fussed with most other penalties. The coaches and players must adapt and not abuse offside play. But pedantic penalties like the one that cost the West Tigers the game last round needs to be stopped. Clearly the referee had no 'feel' for the game at this time. That was a doozy. The play the ball needs to be respected as it is an important precursor for discipline throughout the rest of a game. it creates a respect and not a flaunting of rules. It also creates an air of unpredictability in each ruck play. A seemingly simple task but in the helter skelter of the NRL its a skill played out under pressure. It's very important.

What's the clarification of when players can leave the defensive line? Is it after the ball is rucked (or cleared) or is it when it's placed?

When dummy half touches it. I watch plenty of live games rarely does teams leave then always early. That and the wrestle are blights on the game this will fix it

Agreed. On the subject of scrums, they played an important part in providing more "open play", besides the play immediately following them. They were a not insignificant factor in tiring the forwards. Scrums were bloody hard work and took a lot out of you. If you could get the ball back against the feed, it was a big advantage, so scrums were intensive and added to the fatigue factor. As a forward, not being allowed to just walk on and off the field, having to tackle and run hit ups for 40 to 80 minutes, plus contest the scrums... if you didn't manage your energy wisely, like NOT engaging in stupid **** like "wrestling" etc, the backs would carve you up.

And with the scrums it is very strategic with factors like 7 on 7 scenarios and moves worked off a scrum because of the numbers involved.

One obscured angle photo isn't evidence of anything.

thats the next thing they need to address if we are keeping scrums in the game then at least have the forwards in the scrum and the backs in the backline.

Is that the rule? The D-line cant advance until the DH touches it?
Why doesnt the DH ever just leave it there a while to change the tempo up.
You could just "mankad" the defense.
