Good to see you include Blackett in that squad. He will be the next Col Vandervoort at the foor of the mountains. You mark my words.

I missed big Civ by mistake!

Blackett is the business.

Barrett & Sammut would be lethal.

The montage at our last home game had Gower, Clinton, Wallace, Norrie and Youngquest.

That to me says he's been squeezed out. He's good enough to be snapped up by another NRL team, but no surprises if he ends up in England...

Youngquest is one of those players who is solid, dependable and capable of occasional good performances in the top grade. Is he a match winner, a rep standard player or someone whose performances demands selection in the top grade every week, probably not. He needs to move on and so do we. There are others within the club who can probably do the job better.

From a Manly fans perspective...could be very wrong.
Richie Williams would definitely be pushing for a spot in the 1/2's.
Sammut can play another year in the reggies, and cover for injury.

After looking at the Storms sucess over the last few years, I think we could go for something like this;

  • Wesser
  • Daniela
  • Rooney
  • Lewis
  • Gordon
  • Jennings
  • Sammut
  • Woolnough
  • Priddis
  • Civinociva
  • Pritchard
  • T Puletua
  • Rodney
  • Waterhouse
  • F Puletua
  • Moors
  • Grant
Quick, classy fullback, wingers are not huge, but have pace (like turner and geyer, and to a lesser extent Quin - meaning Anthony has bulk). Centres are tall and rangy and reletively quick - like king and falou. Halfs combo - Cronk and Inglis are both young, quick and skillful - I think Jennings and Sammut fit this mould.

Props in white and cross are no nonsense and are big fellas like Woolnough and Petro. I think if our backrow can work like the Storms backrow can - Hoffman, Crocker, Johnson, then that will be great.

Priddo is still quick out of dummy half and has an ok kicking game (but not as good as Smiths).

If we were to go for a Storm style backline... i'd go with:

1. Michael Gordon = Billy Slater
Neither are overly tall. Both are very solid in build and very fast.

2. Geoff Daniela = Steve Turner
Slim build. Lots of pace.

3. Luke Lewis = Matt King
Not really even close to Matt King. But he would be the best choice to fill the role he plays.

4. Maurice Blair = Israel Folau
Young. Powerful. Gets better each week. Not quiet as good as Folau. But could cover the role he plays quiet well IMO.

5. Luke Rooney = Anthony Quinn
Neither are fast. But both are solid runners and defenders, and rarely make errors.

6. Michael Jennings = Greg Inglis
Both are the most talented players in their teams. Both are freaks. Although i'm not sure Jennings is up to playing 5/8.

7. Jarrod Sammut = Cooper Cronk
Not much in common. But meh. Sammut is our best hope for playmaking in the halves.
But i'm not sure we could come close to pulling it off. I'd stick with similar to what we had this year in the 1-5. And just work on halves to ignite the attack.

As I have stated before. The only certain starters in the 2008 side are:

Lewis, Jennings, Waterhouse, Pritchard, Civonoceva.

The following would be looking pretty solid: Wesser, Daniella, Gordon, Blair, J Williams, J Sammut, L Priddis, P Aiton, M Iosefa, T Grant, A Woolnough, F and P Puletua.

In all honesty we need to go into 2008 with no certain starters. Everyone on a level playing field all competing for positions. Now I know that is the politically correct view and the likes of Petro will be guaranteed a starting berth but in all honesty there are few if any other who can be guaranteed there positions in the top 17. Michael Jennings is probably the other obvious candidate as he has untapped potential.

You're a twit Kilkenny. Of course there are some certainties. Civonoceva is a Qld and Aust rep and very rarely puts in a poor performance. Waterhouse is one of the best back rowers in the game and has a tremendous workethic and great ball skills and pace.

Pritchard is one of the most damaging wide running forwards in the game and I rate him alongside the likes of Ryan Hoffman.

Jennings will be as good as Renouf and wil surely be the best centre three quarter since the days of Meninga and Daley.

Lewis is a classy player. He has sensational technique in both attack and defence, He has all the skills and is rock solid in defence, anywhere fro, 2nd row to wing,

YOU COULD NOT LEAVE ANY OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED PLAYERS OUT OF THE STARTING SIDE.

Reputations should mean nothing. Past performances equally should mean nothing.

You would make a really good coach fibroman. If you were coach can I conclude at the start of training for the new season you would brief the squad and make it known the abovementioned players are certain starters. You would not wait to see how they put in at training or how they performed in the trials. I'm not sure that is the sort of message that a good coach would communicate to his squad.

Agree to disagree. The above mentioned players obviously have all the attributes otherwise they wouldn't have achieved what they have thus far.
