I think resting key players when they're physically fine to play sends a dangerous message. Yes we have a pretty good gap, but we demolish most teams in this comp because the squad plays just as hard against the Knights as they do against the Storm. Get the squad thinking we can just let competition points go and we might see some dangerous attitudes come in.

Given our position I like the idea of saying "if you're right to go you go and give 100%" and ignore the competition table. Winning and losing are habits as much as they are anything else.

I love the idea of this squad doing something record breaking too. They deserve it.

You are a soccer fan I remember

How many games do teams like Man C or Barcelona lose or draw due to resting guys ?

My NBA team is shit. We are often getting wins because a good side is holding guys back for bigger games later in the year.

We have a brutal run home. Being a bottom 4 team by 40 in the middle of year means nothing if the side hits a wall and bombs out in the finals

Point 1 - no one has credibility on an opinion based forum. It is all just opinion.

Point 2 - I got carved up early on the year for saying we would be undefeated after 10 rounds...so you are full of shit saying I death ride the club

Now to your reply

Ivan as a coach has had mild success. Most of which was with the Warriors who don't have to navigate things such as Origin.

As a club the only player who has had to go through it is Cleary.

2020 Origin was after the season

Last year my 2 Favourite players ( I expect a numpty like you spin this) Yeo and Luai were down. Luai himself admitted to needing to lift this year

Do they end the year better from missing games instead of lightening training?

Seems opinion in this thread is 50/50.

Did Kevvie Walters get it wrong not playing Cobbo or Capewell?

What about Payten not playing Cotter or Nanai?

Their opinion's were to rest guys. No way is 100% fool proof or the correct way but in an OPINION based forum. Discussing such things is allowed and doesn't mean posters are deathriding anything. Just discussing alternative views

Winning an NRL trophy, along with getting a team to a grandfinal 3 times. Is more than 'MILD' sucess.

52% win record is middle of the road.

Before this stint here. He had 2 seasons with Top 4 finishes.

With more losing season's than winning seaso

Ricky Stuart has coached 4 GF's for a premiership. Would you say he has had more than mild success?

Regardless point is Ivan is new to coaching an elite squad and needing to juggle getting a side fit for finals. Including navigating this period

In my opinion I’m happy coach Cleary went with his best team Other than Yeo.

All the players backing up were clearly good to go in this instance.

Solid win, good for our for and against which in itself can be worth finishing above one of our competitors if we finish on equal points.

The most important opinion is that of the coach, there is no guarantee what the outcome of the game would have been had he rested some or all of the SOO players.

All except for Broncos we play the top 8. In the run home For and against is irrelevant if we beat them

After actually seeing origin play out I am still surprised Martin at the minimum wasn't rested. 50 tackles for 4 missed he nearly beat Cook for defensive work load. He must be made of steel.

Liam is still young, fit and injury free so more than capable of backing up.

I think coach Fittler erred by not playing Angus Crichton and he surely has to come back in for SOO 2 at the expense of Sims. I think Liam will retain his spot on the bench, certainly doesn’t deserve to be dropped. The media are pushing for the Sea Eagles back rower in Olakau’atu which I can understand in a way. He can get his debut perhaps in game 3 if it is a dead rubber otherwise Sims should be the only back row change IMO.

I give up with Fittler. At least with Ivan there's option A and option B and he just does what he thinks is best, fittler makes no sense with his selections.

I'm a casual soccer fan, only really follow footy closely these days. But quite aside from the economic differences between the haves and have nots in the EPL, the big clubs plow a ton more (both resources and focus) on winning random league games against relatively shit squads. The top 4 are usually separated by which team drops points in those kinds of games. There would be absolutely no complacency allowed in the group, and if the star players are in any way able to back up from midweek fixtures they would do so.

Its a bit different here due to the finals system. I certainly see the point you and a few others are making. I'm just throwing out there that there are cultural benefits to keeping the foot on the gas during this period and that both approaches have risks that we're probably not well placed to evaluate.

While we're asking questions.
Was this our biggest win at Newcastle.
I cant recall any other time we have smashed them at home.

- 2021: 24 played, 21 wins, 88%
- 2022: Plated 14, wins 13, 93%

Obviously includes finals games. Thanks. Mate from USA was asking.

Short turnaround into the Warriors need to back it up and put the foot down. Nothing less than 100%. Put them to the sword.

60% wins this one. I know you hate hearing that but that's how bad they are
60% the Eels today, didn’t quite pan out the way they thought it would.

You still have to turn up regardless of your opposition. If you don't you leave yourselves open to to the likes of what happened today.

I understand our defence doesn’t allow for the likes of the Warriors to put 30 on us but at the same time we still have to turn up and be at our best. The good sides turn up every week and that is why they are the best. Unlike the Eels today, which is why perhaps they are pretenders instead of contenders.
