Nine’s highest rating program of the year was the thrilling NRL Premiership decider between the Penrith Panthers and Brisbane Broncos which recorded a Total TV audience of 3.6 million. It secured a streaming audience of 605,000 on 9Now - the largest for a rugby league game in history. This year’s NRL season boasted year-on-year growth of 36.2% in BVOD and 1.7% in Total TV.

Our next three highest rating programs of the year were the 2023 State of Origin Series, which recorded Total TV audiences of 3.4 million (Match 1), 3.2 million (Match 2) and 2.6 million (Match 3). This year’s State of Origin Series enjoyed year-on-year growth of 22.6% in BVOD and 2.8% in Total TV.

My top 3 PENRITH moments:

3. 2021 Grand final. That intercept from Stephen Crichton will give fan favourite Cody Walker nightmares and denied Souths their 22nd premiership. Souths then went on to lose the Charity Shield in 2022 after winning it 9 times in a row.

2. 2023 Grand Final. With a lead of 24-8 with 20 minutes to go the Broncos eclipse the Dragons 1999 capitulation with the greatest Grand Final choke in Australian rugby league history, with Penrith becoming the only club to win 3 straight premierships in the NRL era.

1. Round 2, 2022.
In what could be one of the greatest acts of rugby league sportsmanship, Penrith captain Isaah Yeo helps Dragons captain Ben Hunt carry out the NRL trophy on which Norm Provan is sculpted in his tribute game.
The trophy and Penrith came through unscathed with a 20-16 victory to the reigning premiers.

On a rewatch of the 2023 GF, I dont think enough emphasis is placed on how important Cleary taking the drop out on the full was. If he lets it go out on the full rather than step and catch, Reynolds would not have challenged the decision. Because of this, it takes away Brisbane’s ability to challenge the last kick off which could have easily been overturned.

Um from memory there was no break in play on the last kickoff when Penrith regained possession.

They couldn't challenge in that case.

A huge turning point in the game was the bunker sending Flegler off for an HIA around twenty minutes in.

It meant he was able to come back before half time as a free interchange and grab a try.

I highly doubt he is on the field at the end of the first half if Brisbane were following their substitution schedule.

Sorry you are right. I thought they could challenge on a structured restart but its only if there is a stoppage in play.
