Absolutely.. it's just crazy that Norths weren't given some recognition for jumping before they were pushed (re: the Central Coast relocation they had in-process) and given all the support they needed to get the Central Coast Bears off the ground in 2000.
Criteria tried to protect regional clubs

It was flawed from the start

Note if a sponsorship reversal was not made to a club, Penrith would have been cut

In hignsight, do you think that was a good idea?
Penrith being pretty far out distance of Sydney's borders, pretty much make them almost regional, basically the same distance of the central coast or Illawarra to Sydney's central city cbd

Actually, Penrith is on the border of Western Sydney, so it's still part of the Greater Sydney area.

Cutting Penrith would’ve been stupid

just like cutting the crushers Gold Coast central coast Illawarra south’s and Perth was (sharks Should’ve been booted for the dragons)

The ranking criteria for clubs was rigged as outlined by George Piggins in his book

Crushers were broke before they entered league. None of those sides were performing well on & off field.

Gold Coast has one million in the bank

south’s ranked ahead of panthers I think ? Them they changed the criteria

News ltd money to clubs was counted as sponsorship

no club then was good financially

No they don't stupid donkey.

Billy Moore said it you dope.

“If you rekindle those 220,000 fans, if it is the Perth Bears and they play Cronulla at their ground, you’ll get 5,000 extra fans that wouldn’t have been going there. I don’t see a weakness in the model.

“You can have nostalgia but let me take history as an example.

“Sydney Swans, that’s marrying Souths Melbourne with the Sydney Swans’ new marketplace and that’s working. Fitzroy, Brisbane Lions — it does work.

From a News Ltd article written by Jason Lassey:

The NRL’s preference is for a Perth Bears joint-venture relocation model operating under a motto of ‘Two Histories, One Future’ – ostensibly becoming the Sydney Swans of the NRL.

Dunno George took the nrl and news ltd to court and not only did his club come back in they weren’t stuck with a joint venture either

He mortgaged his house too to pay for the court case

They picked what they wanted in the criteria

By setting a criteria that allowed for this one of News Ltd payment, of course meant no super league clubs were in the firing line

But 25 years on

It has been proven so wrong, by Souths, Gold Coast, Brisbane 2 all returning not to meantion the roadmap back to 20 teams.

Gold coast has been bailed out since returning. Crushers were broke. South's have become a juggernaut after returning but where were their fans prior?!

George achieved a lot in a lot of areas of life, but in terms of superleague vs South's I think his views are slanted.

He was right 100 percent

south’s are bigger than ever before and news ltd is out of the game

he had his club and the game first unlike Murdoch

How does killing off the most sucesful australian league club make sense ?
It’s like afl killing off Collingwood

South's were run like an amateur organisation in the 90's - see piggins vs Denton YouTube clip. Easy to see why Superleague wanted Bulldogs, sharks etc..
