Genuine question, why does it matter that a newspaper and channel 7 are snubbing it? I'm sure channel 9 is promoting it and certainly fox for those that have it.

I don’t object so much to the “snubbing “ of Origin , but more the attempts at ridicule for the Bears… there is an immaturity about it..and dare I suggest some insecurity about their own game ?

Oh yeah, I completely agree it is childish and petty. I just think that anyone interested could get promotion of the event by changing the channel to 9
For sure. I listen to radio station 6PR and they have been very positive about NRL for years. Mal is on Triple M tmrw apparently so it's not every media outlet, it's just this one.
It doesnt bother me the slightest.

For the record, I work in aged care, and for some reason, the residents always prefer the tv to be on Ch7, and before I left tonight they had the local Ch7 news on, and they were doing a story on the Origin game last night in the sports section. Ch7 don't seem to be being petty and childish about League.

It's only the newspaper.

I suppose there are heaps of radio stations, a number of tv stations, and any of those could, in theory, chuck a hissyfit and refuse to give NRL any coverage and few would notice, as there are plenty of alternatives for those looking for it.
But when you're the only newspaper in town, you have free reign to throw a tanty and boycott whatever you want, and there's no other competition for anyone to go to instead. There's only one opinion that gets aired. No alternate views for people to take in.

250k people in Perth involved with origin as a viewing spectacle somehow

That 1/8 people

That's like the swans getting 625k in Sydney

The West is widely regarded as a clown show in Perth, they probably brought more eyeballs to it

I'd call it an own goal

How is the 190k viewers calculated? Is it actual TV sets? Is it homes? Is it TV sets multiplied by an average number of occupants.
If it’s 190k TVs or premises, then that number should easily be double, as it’d be very rare for someone to be sat at home alone watching it. There’d usually be a few around the tv watching.

The fear is not only hilarious, it's ridiculous.

We're not going to "take over" WA. It would be arrogant to think so and disrespectful to the culture of WA locals.

RL will just focus on itself and let the locals decide.

If we can take over anything in WA, I hope it's Union. Eat those merkins.

League doesn’t need to take over nor is trying to take over WA anyway. Just build a solid following including being a second side to many fumble followers in WA. Over time I believe they will get an equivalent following to those two clubs.

If west coast pigeons continue to be a cellar dweller over the next few years (likely) then it gives the Bears a bit more of a chance to capture market share earlier.

It's an estimate based on a sample of about 5000 households nationally. Realistically, events like Origins and GFs probably rate much higher than reported because of people gathered in pubs and clubs watching in addition to heaps of casual fans at home.

Watch the West Coast Eagles suddenly win the premiership in 2027 or 2028

I think it’s a bit much to expect it will ever be on any equivalence of their two AFL teams ..

We see how ineffectual that GWS is in Western Sydney even after 15 years, good success on the field and hundreds of millions spent trying to get juniors interested in it …I think expectations should be kept modest for the Bears in Perth …crowds of 15k and producing a few NRL local juniors would be a good start ..

Correct. Hopefully the club launch is in Perth.
It's amazing that the NRL press can really focus on what is said in a lowly selling WA paper, but not have any criticism about the PERTH Bears making major annoucements from Sydney.

I mean is this a deliberate strategy to sabotage any good press?

If you're an AFL fan in Perth, the Perth Bears coming into the NRL might just be the best thing for them, because the AFL might actually start giving a shit about the WA AFL teams lol.
At least the Perth bears will get the same grant as the other nrl clubs

The wa afl sides get amongst the least out of the afl (up to ten million less than the swans giants lions) and they have to pay around ten million pa to the waafl to fund their costs

The afl treat them as a cash cow for eastern states expansion

There’s discontent from wa afl fans against Victoria centric afl and the nrl can benefit from that discord
