I missed that comment.

I found his answer when asked about the local media;

"I think the media coverage has been a bit biased, in the sense that the main newspaper here is owned by Seven West Media, that has the AFL rights, let's be quite frank," he told reporters on Thursday at Perth's HBF Park, set to be the home ground of the Bears.

"They don't want us to be here, because they realise we're going to be competitive and we're going to take some of the lunch, and we eat a lot so we'll be taking a fair bit of their lunch."
We’re going to drink their milkshake.

Huge day for the sport, first expansion outside of NSW/QLD since the Storm, Bears back in the big leagues, Perth finally has its own team again even if it’s 10-15 years overdue.

Well done to V’Landys, Abdo, Cook & all others involved.

The expansion forum will now just be a dick measuring contest between Christchurch and Ipswich for the next 5 years, with the odd mention of Adelaide & Singapore of course.
Time to get the think tank together and come up with an NRL TV promotion to rival Tina Turner’s Simply the Best from 1991 . Regarded as the best ever Australian sport advertising campaign ever. Cut through all demographics. Keep the juggernaut rolling .

The couple laughing at the end :oops:
Great story behind Simply the Best promo as well with a strong Aussie flavour. The song “The Best” was originally recorded by Bonnie Tyler the year before and it was a total flop. Tina Turner heard Bonnie’s version and got co writer Connie Knight to tweak it. The other co-writer was Australian writer/producer Mike Chapman.

Tina’s manager was Victorian Roger Davies who apparently was an AFL tragic. He was friends with John Quayle and offered the rights to the song to him and the rest is history. If it was rejected by Quayle it was going to be offered to AFL CEO at the time Ross Oakley. A real sliding doors moment for the game.

While I'm buzzing about Perth getting a team again, I just had a thought that for some reason interested me. In 2028, for the first time ever, an NRL game will comprise of two teams not from Australia when PNG play NZ Warriors.

This is only a couple of decades (but seemingly not that long ago to me!) after the first ever non-NSW Grand Final (Brisbane vs Melbourne) took place, and the first all-Qld Grand Final (Brisbane vs Nth.Qld).

How times are changing from when I was a kid compared to now as a 44yr old!
The NSWRL certainly has come a long way.
