It seems PVL and most Sydneysiders on here are obsessed with ‘battling AFL’. Which is strange.

Both these competitions are thriving, not at the expense of each other, rather at the expense of soccer and RU, which have fallen off a cliff in terms of crowds, ratings, sponsorship, broadcast rights and general interest. Those sports have long since peaked and will continue to fall behind. Ditto with BBL. Basketball is on the up but off a low base.

You will find that gap between NRL/AFL and other sports will continue to grow. There really is very little crossover between the two sports. They are only competitors in the sense that they are so far ahead of other sports in this country. One being up has no bearing on the other. In fact if you go back historically and look at crowds, when NSWRL crowds were up, so we’re the VFL. Its not like there are thousand of people out there saying ‘should we follow league or Aussie Riles this year dear?’. Round 1 NRL had record crowd/ratings, so will the AFL this weekend. That is the way it works.

PVL has everyone sucked in (Including me). Mentioning the AFL every time he opens his mouth is annoying and seems insecure and petty, but it is simply a call to arms - to fans, media, and governments (in NSW/QLD).

Mentioning afl in a Derogatory way isn’t annoying to me

it’s funny

But his job now is to put in 20 teams and get league back where it was before super league

If you’re concerned about AFL consider this. The average AFL team looks nearly exactly the same as it did in Australia in the 1950s under the White Australia policy.

Meanwhile the average NRL team actually looks like modern Australia - multicultural. If your players don’t reflect the current population then your future is limited.

Absolutely

compare with Penrith team of juniors that won the comp in 1990 to the Penrith team of juniors that won the comp recently

shows the changing demographics of Penrith

Apparently US college football players will launch the game in America and save the nrl. this guy is a genius for sure.
It’s hard to know when he’s being serious and when he’s taking the pss and getting news ltd to print dumb stories for giggles?

“There’s a market in America for NFL players to come here,” V’landys said.
“The model is basketball. Anyone who doesn’t make basketball in America comes to Australia. Then there’s the pathway then between the two countries.

Sounds like the Pacifka team will play a game in Hawaii and LA

So a team every 3 years

2026
2029
2032

If PVL is serious about the US he woould make a play to have XFL come across and play RL. Instant players and national professional league
