The above applies to smokers as well and the numbers taking up the habit declined over the years. I think the main target is future generations by not having their young, impressionable minds pummelled with gambling ads that make it look cool and fun instead of the misery it could become.

That way of think is over estimating the affect ads have, In most cases who watches pre-shows?

They will hear stories or hear of older brothers, uncles bets. Good and bad and that will guide them

That was the same thinking to ban fast food advertising.... Yet every corner in every major city has a Maccas or KFC.

So just banning ads has a minimal affect on those issues without a bigger plan

These guys spend millions and billions worldwide on advertising for a reason.

Yes and would problem gamblers stop betting because of less ads?

It is to get the casual punters across or just general brand awareness

NRL and AFL both have the Sportsbet odds as part of the draw. That won't change with these changes

Cigarette smoking has drastically declined since the days of the advertising ban.

And is this really targetted at middle aged blokes anyway? Its about exposing kids to this during the TV broadcasts.

So what is the greater strategy here?

Problem gamblers can still go about their business.

Casual punters will still put their multis on.

The only losers are the TV and sports that need the revenue

If sports and TV only survive due to revenue from an industry that preys on vulnerable people and destroys lives, they deserve to die.

We have been complaining about the lack of promotion by Nein ever since they got the NRL contract.Ch7 knows how to promote beanpole ball ,and Nein continues to just plod along.
When you have competing entertainment interests available to the population and you want to attract the theatre goers or casual attendees, you promote the living heck out of it.
Nein have no problem Sport Sunday talking about the fumblers (fair enough), but economic commonsense for any Tv outfit is to secure maximum viewers. And you sure as hell don't get it sitting on your twat ,twiddling your thumbs.
PVL needs to put a right royal rocket up their backsides.

That article has less detail then a Trent Barret game plan.

$200M? No venue locked in, no teams locked in.

"This is different to the other times" Why?

'Only last month was it reported the NRL was attempting to capitalise on the expansive American market, '

they seem to have missed the word 'betting' out of the sentence lol
Remember when we mocked the AFL and their push into China? well now its our turn.
